Very useful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Specially useful if you like your browser to request only what you need

Decent app Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like it fine enough and it usually doesn't break pages. I use it along with an ad blocker [currently ublockOrigin] and Disconnect. You have to remember that when a page isn't working right to temp-pause the blocking on this app and reload the page. A lot of folks can't seem to manage that.

Great program, easy to use and modify. Adding and changing what works at which site is easy and intuitive. Work great not much else to say.

Great adblock Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great adblocker although it needs a little work seeing how it does not block ads on every website and video playback will not work if ghostery is enabled for some sites.

Cool, but new V6 GUI is terrible.

review deleted (#4) (two deletions today) Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I am attempting to set a rating with two stars to circumvent automated deletions of one star ratings.

The authors of Ghostery keep deleting reviews marked with one star.
This course of action is in stark contrast to the purpose of the add-on, which is to protect its user and his privacy.

The following review was originally written an April 1 2016, and will be re-posted each time it is deleted, with incremental counters.

You should know that Ghostery - after version 5.4.11 - uses a webpage at extension.ghostery.com to make your add-on settings, and your settings are pulled from the webpage.
Essentially, this means that:
* your add-on settings are controlled by someone else, because the authoritative place to store them is not your system
* if you remove your cookies (which you should do in regular intervals, if not selectively), you lose your add-on settings
* the default add-on settings that are active after removing cookies do not block trackers or other objects, regardless of what was set before removing the cookies.
* the default settings cause the add-on to communicate usage-specific data back to ghostery.com. Also, no notifications about library updates are checked, and marketing messages are enabled to be pushed.
Generally, the fact that an add-on to protect privacy needs a privacy statement from its author is questionable in the first place.
I recommend to better not remove reviews.

Great add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I use this add-on both in Firefox and Chrome. I use the combination of this and a script blocker (NoScript for Firefox, ScriptSafe for Chrome) to increase the safety of going online.

I like the category blocking and easy ability to change settings by site.

Very few issues Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Ghostery is unobtrusive and effective, with few issues (in my experience). It is a welcome addition I am happy to have on my browser.

New User Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Being new to Ghostery I'm very pleased with its performance, I obviously can't comment on the recent update, but I've tried most of the add and tracking blockers and would put Ghostery in the top 3.
I'm very glad I added it to my browser.

Pour une navigation familiale... Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Bonjour,

Uses too much resources Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Extremely useful but it slows down a page's loading, takes up on average 120MB ram, for one extension that's just too much.

Ok, Some issues Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Hi, I'm using the version 6. It would be nice if the start page of the extension will be persistent. Some people (Including me) find that the Tracker Settings page is more usefull. So if the user choose it to display infos, it should be the one to display next time he open the extension.
Thanks.

Not happy with new version Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Upgraded to Ghostery 6.0.3 and not only did the upgrade disable all tracking blocks for all categories and had to reenable them to my preferences but I found the setting "Allow Ghostery to message me in my browser with information related to Ghostery products" box pre-ticked which evidently opted me in for Ghostery advertising without informing me what was going on so that I could make an informed choice. (The answer being, "No, I don't want to see your advertising thank you very much.")

And then there's this whole thing about "Accounts" that vaguely promises users "advanced features" but seems just like another attempt to be able to spam us about products.

If this is the direction that Ghostery intends to take with every update then I will simply remove it from my browser and will try another blocking addon.

:-(

Two stars because I'm being charitable.

Concerning the new interface design. Please listen to your customers! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Ghostery used to have a simple user friendly user interface.
This new interface is just horrible. We cannot simply pause or whitelist with just one mouse click anymore.

My advise: Please read all the recent reviews carefully and rethink the whole project.
Keep your customers happy! Without them you finally will lose.
It would be a shame!

Thanks for using what used to be a great add-on.
For now I am removing it and moving on....

my regards

Hello Syncopated!

Thank you for your feedback! Whitelisting can still be accomplished with the exact same number of clicks, only the terminology has been changed to "Trust Site".

very good Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I like the update. It is less intrusive and still does everything I need as a privacy freak.

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Just chiming in to express my disappointment with the version 6 update. I can get over the user interface changes, but what peeves me the most is that the update changed my settings from everything blocked to everything allowed. I knew all along that Ghostery was in the business of advertising, but now, especially with the addition of the account feature, Ghostery has pretty much come out and admitted that it itself is a tracker. No thanks.
