Could it be possible to include area selection to the addon sometime in future..? Like Chrome's page monitor.

One of my Favorites! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A highly useful add-on for monitoring pages that don't support RSS. Unfortunately, it is not currently compatible with Firefox 5 Beta. I have to drop back to FF4 to add pages.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.1.5).

Try the beta release

There's experimental support for Firefox 5 in the latest beta release. Click "Install Development Version" from the main addon page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/update-scanner/)

top-add-on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

On of my all-time favorite add-ons for firefox!Works flawlessly on firefox 3 and 4. Don't know why it's just supported to download it for Firefox 4.0b8 - 4.0.* here.If you need to check changes and updates of several websites regularly, this is your add-on!

@Sporitus: you probably did not see the small blue arrow-button in the left bottom corner. It changed from version 3 to 4, but you can easily drag this button back on the top menu bar again...

Almost perfect!

Could use an ignore list that would support both text and regular expressions. Besides an ignore list there could also be a watch list that would alert only when text that matches that list is found on a page. Once again, regex filtering is a must!

Simple and effective! Also has a good forum for asking questions and making suggestions. Quickly becoming an extension I use every day.
I have not tried SiteDelta yet so I can't compare.

UpdateScanner vs SiteDelta Rated 4 out of 5 stars

UpdateScanner is much more easy to handle and more accurate than SiteDelta! - But UpdateScanner seems to have some bugs interfering with other software (e.g. the UPEK fingerprint reader AddOn for FireFox, which results in high CPU load with the fingerprint Tray application). - But this might only a small, but annoying bug which is fixed in one of UpdateScanner's next versions ... - Anyway UpdateScanner is the better choice to avoid false positive alerts - and it is easier to configure, but with better results! - UpdateScanner also allows to make folders for its bookmarks - and the complete structure is saved, so that after reinstalling UpdateScanner your bookmarks are still there where they were before! - Even selecting a simple new soundfile for notification is made more easily with UpdateScanner than with SiteDelta: so you'll see that UpdateScanner has the better "internal" concept than SiteDelta, which offers dozens of settings and a complicated website area markup mechanism: totally useless! ... See by yourself!

Very good, but... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works very well, do exactly what it promisses, but I think it could be better , at least for me, if the individual sites settings were stored in favorites (could be in tags??)! So I could keep my browsers in sync, since it is not an online service where I could leave these sites saved on your servers!
I think it's a good idea, no?!
I hope you implement this feature in next releases!
Thanks!

A fine ides - and it's already implemented.
Check your bookmarks. You'll find a folder called "Update Scanner's Pages" containing all of your Update Scanner sites. The site properties are stored as "Annotations" to these bookmarks.

Note that if your Sync service doesn't handle Annotations, your settings won't be synced, but the pages should still be synced correctly.

For more details, check the FAQ and the forums.

I have tried it some time ago. For me it was useless - to much false positives, lack of settings. SiteDelta with scan/ignore regions is much much better.

Great addon! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Really helpful for sites with no RSS, there are some very few alternatives but Update Scanner is by far the best. Hope it stays updated!

Great tool for sites without RSS Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Can't imagine my browsing life without it!

Xlnt for real life work Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Easy to use overall, easy to select exact URL to monitor, easy to edit scan settings for each site individually, unobtrusive user interface.

This tool is invaluable to me as an environmental consultant to large US companies,
Update Scanner is one of the only available tools to stay current with regulations as the Feds and states don't use RSS on the web sites I must monitor.

Update Scanner checks user-specified web-pages at user-selected intervals (ranging from 5 minutes to weekly, or manual) for a user-selected differential in content (from "any change" to a range of 10 to 1000 characters).

When a page is updated, an unobtrusive toolbar notification message pops up in Firefox, clicking it opens a sidebar listing all scanned sites with updated sites in bold. Clicking a link in the sidebar opens the scanned site with all new content highlighted similar to Google search when clicking "Cached".

Почти идеально Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Please, add option to select page region to scan!

Needed option to select a certain area of a web page Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It would be nice if it had a option to select a certain area of a web page for updates instead of just the whole web page because alot of times there's advertisements that causes false update so heres a good sample like called fireclip grabs the selected area by detecting embedded iframes,

www.changedetection.com is all you need? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Unless you want to hightlight changes (they didn't use to support it)
Unless you want to change frequency (their minimum was once per day, has it changed?)
Unless the want to be dependent on something else (they kept going down)
