Palisade blocks ads and trackers, hides whatever is left over, and tells you what it did.

It reads uBlock Origin's filter syntax, so the lists you already trust work here without changes. Nine of them come switched on: EasyList, EasyPrivacy and the uBlock Origin set among them. Four more are a checkbox away. Together that is over 200,000 filters.

WHAT THE FIREFOX BUILD GETS

Firefox still lets an extension look at a request and cancel it while it is happening. So Palisade runs its own matching engine on every request. Nothing has to be compiled down into a fixed table of rules first and handed to the browser to apply on its behalf.

What does that buy you? Every filter option works, including the ones Chrome has no way to express. There is no ceiling on how many rules you can load. And when a list updates, the new rules are live the moment the download finishes.

ABOUT UBLOCK ORIGIN

It is the more mature extension and I am not going to pretend otherwise. If it is working for you, there is no particular reason to move.

So why this one?

Palisade exists because Chrome broke the old blockers. The Firefox build is that same extension with the engine it should have had. If you use both browsers you get one blocker across them. Same behaviour, same settings screen, same exported filters in each. That part is genuinely hard to get anywhere else.

WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT

Write your own filters and they apply as soon as you save.

Point the element picker at anything you want gone, then decide how broad the rule should be before you commit to it, which matters a great deal when a site has reused the same class name for both its ads and the body of its articles.

Read the log. It tells you what was blocked and which filter is responsible. That is usually the only thing you have to go on in order to work out why a page broke.

Per site you get four settings, from normal filtering down to off.

PRIVACY

Nothing is sent anywhere. There is no account, no sign-in, and no telemetry of any kind. Filter lists are downloaded from the people who publish them, and all of the rest stays on your computer, which means your settings and your own filters and your per-site choices never leave the machine unless you export them to a file yourself.
