About this Add-on

DETECT
Ghostery sees the "invisible" web, detecting trackers, web bugs, pixels, and beacons placed on web pages by Facebook, Google, and thousands of other companies interested in your activity.

LEARN
After showing you who operates behind the scenes, Ghostery also gives you the opportunity to learn more about each company it identifies, including links to their privacy policy and opt-out options.

CONTROL
Ghostery allows you to block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and even block images and iframes.

COLLABORATE
Ghostery also includes the optional, opt-in feature called Ghostrank, which sends Ghostery servers anonymous information about the trackers you encounter and where you encounter them. This allows us to create a more comprehensive list of detectable items, and helps us create a more transparent behavioral advertising ecosystem.

PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY
Ghostery is built and maintained for users that care about their online privacy, and is engineered with privacy as a primary goal. Ghostery use is anonymous. No registrations or sign-ups are required. The Ghostery plug-in does not place cookies into your browser. Besides a single, non-identified ping on install and upgrade, Ghostery never receives any data from users unless they've chosen to participate in Ghostrank. Ghostrank data itself is anonymous, is NEVER used for advertising targeting purposes, and is only shared in aggregated, non-personal, statistical form.

Extension Privacy Statement
Effective Date: April 21, 2014

This Privacy Statement describes our information practices for the Ghostery® browser extension. The Ghostery browser extension is a free downloadable browser extension that helps you to see what companies are tracking you (“Trackers”) on any given website. It is owned by Ghostery, Inc., formerly Evidon, Inc. (“Ghostery”), and can be downloaded onto your computer, subject to the Ghostery browser extension End-User License Agreement (“EULA”).

With the information that the Ghostery browser extension provides you can learn more about these Trackers and exercise personal control over this activity. The Ghostery browser extension does not collect any personal information about you such as your name, address, or email address.

Ghostrank™

Ghostery users can opt-in to be on a volunteer panel called “Ghostrank”. The only way to be in Ghostrank is to affirmatively opt-in as part of the Ghostery browser extension download process, or by selecting to participate via Ghostery’s options page. When you opt-in to Ghostrank, you allow the Ghostery browser extension to find and catalogue any trackers that may appear as your browser traverses the Internet.

What Information is collected for Ghostrank

The Ghostery browser extension collects and sends the following anonymous information to Ghostery each time a tracker is encountered: the tracker identified by the Ghostery browser extension, the blocking status of the tracker, domains identified as serving trackers, the time it takes for the page and the tracker to load, the tracker’s position on the page, the browser in which the Ghostery browser extension has been installed, and standard web server log information like your web request, the data sent in response to that request, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request. The information we gather is about tracking elements only (we find out and inform you who is tracking you on the Internet), and is never about individuals who encountered those trackers.

What is the Ghostrank Information Used For

The Ghostrank information we collect helps to increase our tracker intelligence, and to improve our products and solutions for businesses. We do not use any collected information to track individuals or to target ads to them. Ghostrank data may be licensed commercially and incorporated into our solutions for businesses. Withdrawing Opt-in Consent

You can always withdraw your opt-in consent by opening the Ghostery browser extension, going to the settings, unchecking the “Enable Ghostrank” box and saving your new preferences. Once that is done you will no longer be in the Ghostrank Panel and therefore we will not collect any of the information described above.

Information Sharing Policy

We reserve the right to disclose any information as required by law, or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on us, or to protect the safety of a third person.

Merger, Sale, or Reorganization of Ghostery

If Ghostery should ever file for bankruptcy, or have its assets sold to or merged with another entity, the Ghostrank data is a Ghostery asset and may be transferred.

Changes and Updates

We may occasionally update this Privacy Statement. When we do, we will also revise the “Effective Date” at the top of the Privacy Statement. That means it is your responsibility to periodically review this Privacy Statement to stay informed about our information practices. Your continued use of the Ghostery browser extension constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Statement and any revisions or updates.
