This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Grammarly for Firefox extension, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

Sign in and account status
You are not required to create a user account in order to use the Grammarly Firefox extension. If you choose, you can sign in to Grammarly via the Grammarly for Firefox extension by creating an account or using Google or Facebook account authentication. In order to create an account, you will need to provide Grammarly with your name and email address. Once signed in, the extension checks whether you have purchased Grammarly Premium. We may use your email address to send you information about your account or marketing messages (as permitted by applicable law).

Checking text
When Grammarly for Firefox is initialized in a textbox, the text is sent to our servers so that Grammarly can provide writing suggestions and corrections. This data may also be used where necessary to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Grammarly and its users, to comply with our legal obligations, such as responding to warrants, court orders, or other legal processes, or to improve the algorithms underlying our services. Grammarly’s “G” icon or a green dot is displayed in text fields when Grammarly for Firefox is initialized. Our Products are designed to avoid password fields. During a text-editing session using the browser extension, Grammarly services need to know the website domain to enable or deactivate domain-specific services and writing suggestions.

User setting storage
Registered users can save their Grammarly for Firefox settings on Grammarly servers, including dialect preferences and custom dictionaries, so that these settings are synchronized between all Grammarly Products used by you.

New document creation
In addition to the extension, Grammarly Products have a web-based editor. If you click “New Document,” the extension calls our servers to create a new document for you in the Grammarly web-editor. You can choose to provide information about your goals for the new document, such as your target audience, intent, or style.

Product usage logs
We collect data on how you use the Product in order to improve it. We collect data on which alerts you see and whether you view, accept, reject, or ignore them. When you use the Products, Grammarly may automatically collect:

• technical data and device information—this includes data such as location as indicated by IP address, date and time of use, language preference, operating system, and browser type; and
• data about your use of the product—this includes data such as when you log in or out, turn Grammarly on or off, change settings, or use product features, like looking up definitions and synonyms, using learn more, and using the Grammarly menu.

Customer support
We may collect and use the information you provide when you contact us to provide you with customer service, address any technical issues that you encounter, or to improve our products and services.

Sharing your information
We use a small number of trusted third parties to provide the Grammarly for Firefox extension. For example, we use Amazon Web Services to store text content, Salesforce to track sales leads, PayPal and Braintree to process payments, and Zendesk to track customer support requests. We may also share the information that we collect through the Firefox extension as required by law, such as in response to a court order or law enforcement request; if necessary to protect our rights or the rights of others; or in connection with a corporate restructuring.
We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Unsupported sites
There are certain sites for which Grammarly is known not to work. The extension requests this list from Grammarly’s servers from time to time in order to update which sites not to initialize on.

Cookies
Grammarly installs a first party cookie that we use for product analytics for signed-out users, fraud prevention, and for giving users a consistent experience when we run experiments. For more information on cookies and how Grammarly uses them, please see our Cookie Policy.

Children
Grammarly does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we determine we have collected personal information from a child younger than 13 years of age, we will take reasonable measures to remove that information from our systems.

EEA users
Individuals located in the European Economic Area (EEA) have certain rights in respect to their personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete certain information we process through your use of the extension. EU-US & Swiss-US Privacy Shield
Information submitted to Grammarly will be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States. Grammarly complies with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information transferred from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States. Changes to this Policy
We will notify you of any material changes that impact your rights under this Policy by, for example, sending you an email to your most recently provided email address and post any other revisions to this Policy here along with their effective date. Your continued use of Grammarly after any change means that you agree with, and consent to be bound by, the new Policy.
