MemClip — Privacy Policy
MemClip keeps a local history of text you copy and paste, including where you copied it from and where you pasted it.
WHAT MEMCLIP STORES (only on your own device, via the browser's local extension storage):
- The text content of clips you copy or paste.
- Metadata per clip: source page URL, page title, hostname, scroll position at copy time, timestamps, copy/paste counts, and the pages you pasted a clip into.
- Aggregate stats (e.g. top source sites and paste destinations).
- Your settings (retention period, privacy toggles, blocked-site list).
WHAT MEMCLIP DOES NOT DO:
- No data ever leaves your device. No servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no network requests.
- No account, no tracking, no advertising.
- Does not use storage sync, so clips are not synced to your browser account.
PRIVACY PROTECTIONS:
- Sensitive-data skip (on by default): credit-card numbers (Luhn-validated), US SSNs, private key blocks, and known API/secret tokens are not stored.
- Password fields skipped (on by default).
- Incognito/private windows excluded by default unless you opt in.
- Per-site blocklist you control.
YOUR CONTROLS:
- Retention: auto-delete clips older than 30/60/90 days, or keep forever.
- Clear All History (keeps pinned), Erase Everything, or delete any individual clip.
PERMISSIONS:
- storage — save your clip history locally.
- tabs — read the title/URL of the current page for clip context and open a clip's source page on request.
- clipboardRead — capture text from copy buttons and programmatic copies that don't expose a selection.
- host access (all URLs) — the content script must run on pages to detect copy/paste; used only for capture, nothing is transmitted.
