Used to be good, but totally sucks now. Even after adding the extra program, it fails 90% of the time. For example, on youtube, it downloads the ad instead of the video. It also downloads to a mystery folder that it doesn't tell you about, you have to go find it, instead of downloading to your desktop. :(
I dont think there is any downloader that works on all videos all of the time but I have used Video DownloadHelper a long time now and it rarely fails me. Its my first choice in downloaders. Many thanks to the developers
This downloader is rather slow. The big problem though is that it stalls most of the way through the download and you have to jump through hoops to retry. If it thinks it finished the download it tries to link to the downloaded file (which is usually corrupt)
Seems to work about 25% of the time.
Fix the stalling download problem and change where it ONLY then links to the garbage file and you would have a 3 to 4 rating. As it is it barely works.
VDH 7.0.0 with the companion file ver. 1.0.7 didn't work at all. However, VDH 7.10 with the companion file ver. 1.1.0 is working very nice for me. The severe problem I experienced with VDH has been perfectly fixed. Congratulations!!!!!
it's good add-ons ,I like it.very convenient to download videos from website,thanks.!
Ay idead how to get f**king rid of that "companion app"
By f**king asking Mozilla to make the required services available
Der letzte dreck ist das geworden macht aus einem einfachen video download ne wiisenschaft incl weiteren nötigen addon. was für ein dreck, schade war mal gut
Would have had more stars if the extension didn't hijack my active tab every time it updates.
Try this video on the www.ctvnews.ca and tell me what I need to do to download the whole video:
When I try to download it using this add-on which file do I choose? There are a bunch of files that appear? With the older version it would show four media files and I could download them as MP4 files. Now it is a bunch of files.
Just pick one of the HLS entries. Other are noise you can easily filter out. This is exactly the same with as with version 6.3.3.
But this is not the place to discuss details. The support forum is.
Enormement de bug depuis les MAJ 7.0.0 à jour, inutilisable
You should give details in the support forum: https://groups.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!forum/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a
Exelente aplicación, me encanat
produto de ótima qualidade
Previously great. Now requires a side add-on to work on many sites.
Since this change, now throws pop ups overnight, which interferes with the use of my computer. I have scripts automating several processes, and Video Download Helper has derailed it three times this week.
This change make it completely unusable to me. Uninstalled.
Reply to developer:
Yeah, that doesn't matter, you're still going to derail my scripts, just on a longer interval.
There are ways to communicate an update, an update which probably has zero impact on my use of the add-on, other than hijacking my browser focus.
Just stick on the public channel and not the beta channel if you want less updates !!!
The video download helper has always worked, until a few days ago. now when I click on the red, blue and green bubbles, it takes me to a screen with another same icon with an X in the upper right corner. From this screen the video download helper is dormant or inactive. If I click on the X it goes back to the youtube screen, I use windows Vista. I re-installed Firefox version 52 but it still does the same thing. I cannot do the addon for download helper because it recommends ver 57 which I cannot find.
Can't set a custom directory as default download destination, or "Default download directory", as it's called in the extension.
After the last update (7.1.1), Settings>Behavior has a field for designating the "Default download directory"; which the previous version did not have; but even after specifying a directory and clicking the "Save" option in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, whenever I try to save a video, the "Download" option opens a dialog box to select where to save the video, but it always starts out in the C:\Downloads\dwhelper\ directory instead of the directory that I had set as Video DownloadHelper's default destination directory. It doesn't matter if I choose the "Browser" or the "Companion Application" option in the "Download processor" setting, the results are the same.
I get the same results if I click the quick download (one-click) option. It automatically saves the video to the C:\Downloads\dwhelper\ directory instead of the directory that I had set as Video DownloadHelper's default destination directory; and it does it regardless of which directory I used as the previous downloaded video's destination directory.
In other words, setting the default directory does not change the default download directory. I still have to choose the "Download" option, then navigate to the directory where I want the video to be saved to for each and every video that is downloaded.
Either make it work, or remove the option of choosing the "Default download directory".
On the "pro" side, the option of choosing whether to use browser or "companion application" to save the video does work. However, there is a down side to that, as well. That annoying page pops up for every download, asking me if I want to use the Browser or Companion Application to save the video. Again, on the "pro" side, it does give the option of using the same processor (browser or companion application) for every download thereafter.
The Video DownloadHelper does do a good job of downloading videos, but it's annoying to no end to have to navigate from the operating system's "Downloads" directory to the directory of choice every time I download a video. Even more annoying are settings that just don't perform their stated function--like the user's ability to choose the default download directory that is not already the extension's default directory, for example.
This used to be a great way to download video but lately it updates about every day and then after the update it won't work. Weird thing is that it started doing this after Firefox's latest update, and sometimes when I first try to download it works, then it automatically updates and won't work, claiming I need to download some stupid companion app which I don't want to do because I"m afraid something else will be downloaded along with it (malware, spyware). It was great the way it was!! WHY did they have to screw it up???!!! Have they ever heard the expression "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"??? Looks like either they're just making up an excuse to try to get people to hand over money for a paid version, or Firefox really doesn't want us using this tool. Either way they're just pissing people off, and they'll quit using both the add-on AND the browser if they haven't already.
Ok, you proved you can write but apparently you cannot read.
We explained everywhere why those updates happened due to Firefox Quantum removing the add-ons API to a new much more restricted API, with the need to use a side-app to keep doing the job !!!!
Please reverting to previous versions
The best extension I ever come across.
This is very helpfull to get some the good things in the internet
I'm not at all happy about the latest version of Video DownloadHelper. Before I was able to tell it where I wanted the video to be filed and could even change the name of the video as I wanted it labeled. NOW, it just directly to the download folder - I can't tell it where to be filed and can't change the title. I hate it. Please correct these issues or let us know how to correct it (customize). This is SSSSOOOOOO frustrating. Before, it was a very, very good product.
