this extension is very useful for people like me who like/need to have a lot of tabs open,
i see it stopped working on 4.0 final
but it says it worked on 4.0 beta, any fix possible for this?
This add-on does exactly what I was looking for (searches all open tabs in all windows), it provides a keyboard shortcut to operate (which I like since I tend to use the mouse only as required), and it doesn't mess with my private information. Perfect!
Although marked as not compatible with nightly builds (V4.03bpre) it does work, along with Addon Compatibility Reporter. Firefox has now added searching for open Tabs, but guess what - I still prefer using Tabhunter to find a tab.
Also use Bartab to silence inactive tabs, so now usually have over 200 tabs open. This is a Terrific Addon. I only have these 3 - Addon Compability Reporter, Bartab and Tabhunter.
I have been using Find in Tabs until now. One thing it lacks is finding across all Windows in all tabs AND most importantly, it has not been updated to work in FF 3.6.3+ Uuuugggghhh!
This is the only add-on I have seen that comes close, just not as slick, yet??? I may have to live with this one for now.
It would be nice to see a merge of the functionality of the two.
That said, I also have some bugs:
2. I get an error when trying to change settings: "onSubmit: TypeError: this.prefs is undefined", sot it will not save the changes
I need to find time to redo the prefs manager as an XPCOM object (in case you were wondering). Thanks for the review though.
Been agitating on the Firefox Developers list for a year or two for the Awesome Bar to search tab titles and URLs as well as bookmarks and history. I often have over 100 tabs open and finding one is something I spend a lot of time doing. So far Firefox has not added this sensible functionality, but this extension does the job wonderfully. Only have 3 or 4 extensions, and this is the favourite. Thanks
I am a messy tab user; I always have way too many tabs open (25+). This extension allows me to quickly filter down the tab I'm looking for, and saves both time and my sanity. Thanks for this simple but effective addon!
Does what I want and does it well, without overkill.
Try Find In Tabs. It is MUCH better as it searches everywhere and presents results in a list. Clicking on any item in the list takes you right to the location of that occurrence on the respective tab/page.
I've been happily using TabHunter, without any improvements on it, for the last year or so. I had a look at FiT, and it is pretty slick. They don't do multi-windows -- I absolutely need that. These days I have about 200 tabs up at any time in at least 6 windows. But I've started working on some improvements at home, hope to get them out over the holidays.
A handy extension, but could be MUCH HANDIER with the added functionality of simultaneously searching not only the "Tab Titles" and URLs (as it currently does), but ALSO **THE TEXT** in body of ALL OPEN TABS of ALL OPEN WINDOWS. I like the pop-up "Results" window that mimics the FF "Downloads" window style and function. Just wish this otherwise very nice FF add-on had the added functionality of searching THE TEXT in the body of each open window's open tabs.
Since the new functionality of "Allow selection of multiple tabs for closing many tabs at once (or copying their URLs and/or titles)" was made available in Tabhunter version 0.7.6 at google code, this extension is simply wonderful!
Thank you so much!
Always good to hear from people who find Tabhunter useful.
Power browsers friend. Fast and works. However, no option to place button on the toolbar, not sure why this trend seems to be going on but my "Tools" is already cluttered beyond recognition.
The button is there for those that need it, and well, i do need it. Please consider adding it because it would be awesome. :)
Thank you for this!
It's available at http://tabhunter.googlecode.com/files/tabhunter-0.8.3.xpi -- if you can't wait for Mozilla to approve it, so you get the automatic upgrade, you can download it there.
Thanks for the request -- turns out it was easy to support.
Wow - one moment I was struggling to find a tab in the 100 I have open, and the next I fortunately discovered your wonderful extension which solves one of my few long-standing annoyances with Firefox.I have just a couple of suggestions which could make this extension even better...1) a button to the right of the pattern box that clears the entry and hence lists all the tabs unfiltered2) to be able to use CTRL and SHIFT to select multiple tabs in the list, select "close tab" and to close them all in one action. If these are done, it will be a perfect extension!Thank you for your hard work and congratualations for your achievement!
UPDATE - I don't know whether you will see this update, but I will try to edit this review to post a suggestion.Since tab groups has become a standard feature of Firefox, it would be nice to have a column added to the tabhunter search window to show which group each tab belongs. Also, after selectively selecting the tabs that fit with a search criteria, it would be great to be able to right click and move all these tabs in one go to a different existing tab (if they aren't a member of the group already). I hope you know what I mean.I still love this extension regardless, though, just as I said in Feb 2009. ;) Keep up the amazing work!
PS. Another user has requested a way to close duplicate tabs. Be aware that there is already an excellent extension to do this, called Closy.
Hi, Hal, I finally discovered that if I'm logged in, I can reply to reviews.
Thanks for your recommendation. I've found out that Tabhunter isn't for everyone, but for those of us who work or research on the web, it does the job. That was a good idea on multiple-selection, so I've implemented it. I still need to test it on Linux and Windows, but I've put the XPI up for download at http://tabhunter.googlecode.com/files/tabhunter-0.7.6.xpi.
As for the first suggestion, you can do the same thing by pressing Ctrl-A and delete when the cursor is in the pattern field. I'm not convinced that another button would be more convenient. I like minimal interfaces, and find Tabhunter is already getting more cluttered than I'd like.
one feature request: add tab title to search scope. It would be amazing if the full text of tabs could be searched.
Hi, Regis, Thanks for taking the time to review Tabhunter.
It's been searching titles and URLs for some time, but I've drawn the line there. While it's tempting to do a search on full documents, I typically have close to 200 tabs loaded in Firefox, and don't think I could search all of them quickly enough for the addon to stay useful.
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0xc1f30001 (NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED) [nsIDOMJSWindow.setTimeout]" nsresult: "0xc1f30001 (NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://tabhunter/content/sessionTrack.js :: thst_onTabLoad :: line 227" data: no]

I've definitely been aware of this since I moved to Firefox 3. I tried fixing it in version 0.7.5, but I still see event-handling-related messages coming up, but more like once a day than once every few seconds. At some point I need to look at how I'm managing the event listeners to stop those errors, while still working with older browsers like Firefox 2 and Flock.
Thanks for taking the time to write this up,
Fantastic idea -- thank you for making this add-on.
Two features requested:
1/ display the default document icon in the tabhunter list for documents that don't have a favicon
2/ allow the option to hook this to the all-tabs button so that when you click that you get the tabhunter window instead of the all-tabs popup menu.
Thank you again.
Excellent. ++ Light weight and perfect for the task, unlike all the highly graphic alternatives
Hard to believe this extension isn't more widely used than it is. I need this function all the time, with dozens of tabs open. Simple, fast, and it just works.
Caveat: since I upgraded to Fx 3.0.3, the Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut seems to have been overridden by the Duplicate Tab command. But I don't think that's Tabhunter's fault.
A great extension! Filtering is extremely fast and it searches tab titles as well as locations.
I was waiting for it a long time ago. It reminds me the emacs option to switch between buffer.
Thanks a lot !
Went hunting for a way to search through my gazillion open firefox tabs and this extension came to the rescue! It really helps speed up my researching. Thanks so much!
Tabhunter is like Quicksilver for tabs. Unfortunately, on OS X the current version of Tabhunter uses the same keyboard shortcut as OS X's "Special Characters" character palette.
An easy workaround is to create a dummy entry in the Keyboard & Mouse preferences (in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" section) that doesn't do anything but uses the same Command-Option-T keyboard shortcut.
As a total tab junkie, I find this extension indispensable. I've been looking for an Awesome Bar for my tabs, and this is the closest thing to it. It does exactly what it says!
I've been very pleased with Eric's quick responses and fixes on the Google code issue tracker, too.
This extension has legs, and I'm excited to see where it goes. It's already my most-used extension.
This is a keeper! It's like an AwesomeBar for tabs!
This is actually a pretty awesome extension. It does what it says, and is really useful. Especially when you have like 15 (or more) tabs opened and you can't see the titles of any of the tabs.
It would be great if there was a toolbar button that came with the extension. I don't like the statusbar icon very much (but I can always just hide it). I would also like for the hunting window to close after I've searched.
For a first version, this is a great extension. A definite keeper. A real GTD addon!
My favorite part is that this extension searches quickly. The find as you type was unexpected but a great feature!
