posted 4 days agoHi, thanks a lot for your rating. I am sorry, that the update has caused a notification prompt, which has been disturbing you. However, I can reassure you: Technically, the permissions have not changed and the extension is perfectly fine.
What happened in more detail is that the permission to access your “data on all your sites” has been there before, but only for the currently _active_ tab. Only now Firefox, surprisingly for me too, displays a prompt for that. Thus, this has been there before and still is.
More details can be found here: https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/171#issuecomment-3423634393
Unfortunately, that permission is required by Firefox in order to load a content script, to be able to insert emojis into the page and for the experimental emoji autocorrect feature. The extension is fully open source, so one can verify that it respects user privacy and does not send data anywhere. You can do so yourself at https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker.
This extension also adheres to a strict and short privacy policy, which you can read in detail on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/awesome-emoji-picker/privacy/.
Furthermore, a detailed explanation of the permission this extension requests and why they are requested can be found on https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/blob/main/assets/texts/en/permissions.md.
I hope this explanation helps to explain the situation. Also note that you may, at any time, adjust your rating.

rugk & Teal Dulcet - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 16069181, 4 days agoThe permission change is suspicious (permissions for all data); if the developer is acting in good faith, they can revert this change and disable certain features while investigating whether alternative solutions exist. It seems that discussions on the GitHub issue may offer more reasonable approaches than granting such broad permissions for a simple emoji picker.
I uninstalled it for now. I’m a developer, but I don’t have the time to closely follow the development of this add-on, good as it may be. I’d rather keep an eye on other software that’s supposed to be more critical.
TLDR: lol nice try
Edit after the response: I will update my review once the permissions seem legitimate to me. If the problem is with the Firefox API, it may not be the developer's fault, although it's still unacceptable. Otherwise, the extension needs to be fixed.Developer response
posted 4 days agoHi, thanks a lot for your rating. I am sorry, that the update has caused a notification prompt, which has been disturbing you. As far as I see you already researched and found our GitHub issue explaining what happened: https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/171#issuecomment-3423634393

We are currently investigating how to deal with that issue, so I would ask for some time. It's still an open source project done by hobbyists. Rollback may be possible but could disturb users who already upgraded and there is no technical problem, after all. Also, for users who already upgraded this would not make a difference.
Anyway, I'd prefer to keep the discussion on the GitHub issue to constructively find a solution here.

rugk & Teal Dulcet - Rated 1 out of 5by seika, 3 years agoSeriously people, stop making these stupid ass toolbar menus. Why the fuck would i want to go all the way up there when i should be able to simply right click and access the menu like in opera. Only firefox users and reddit users would appreciate such an annoying limitation.

posted 3 years agoHi seika,
thanks for your rating. I see that you want to have a quicker way to access the toolbar or emoji picker add-on.
As far as I see, I can provide you with some tips, so you can try out whether they work for you:
1. You can customize the toolbar in Firefox, so the icon is always shown and you can access it with one click: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars
2. This extension can also be accessed with a hot key, by default it is Ctrl+Shift+Period.
3. Finally, you can also access it in the address bar, if you enable that feature. See https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/wiki/FAQ#how-to-use-the-address-bar-to-search-for-emojis for more information. You could e.g. press Ctrl+L to access the address bar and then type "emoji" to find any emoji.
Furthermore the optional integration into the context menu, so the picker can be accessed with right click is tracked in https://github.com/rugk/awesome-emoji-picker/issues/45 and already implemented. It will be included in the next release.
Apart from all of that, I unfortunately see no way to help you here as the add-on developer of the Awesome Emoji Picker extension. I cannot influence where Firefox places the toolbar buttons or so.
If your message was meant to be directed to Firefox, please direct that to them and e.g. share your ideas and feedback on https://connect.mozilla.org/.
If this helps, it would be glad if you could adjust your voting, as there is nothing more I can do here as an extension developer, unfortunately.
Apart from that, if you have any other ideas or issues, feel free to get in touch.
Best regards
