Privacy Policy — Reddit Lite

Reddit Lite is a browser extension that makes Reddit lighter and faster. This document explains exactly what data it does and does not handle.

Summary
Reddit Lite does not collect, sell, or transmit your browsing activity, Reddit content, or personal information.
All settings, mute rules, thread history, and usage stats are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device.
The only data ever sent off your device is a license key and a randomly generated install identifier, and only if you purchase and activate Pro — sent solely to Dodo Payments to verify the license.
Data stored locally (never transmitted)
Reddit Lite uses the browser's storage.local API to save, on your device only:

Your feature settings (autoplay blocking, hidden sections, telemetry blocking, etc.)
Mute rules you create (keywords, domains, usernames)
Recently visited thread history (used for the quick-jump list)
Usage dashboard counters (a running tally of what's been filtered/blocked)
Your Pro license state (see below)
None of this is synced to a server, an account, or analytics service. It is readable only by the extension, on your own browser, and is deleted if you remove the extension or clear its storage.

Reddit's own telemetry
Reddit Lite can block Reddit's own analytics/telemetry requests using the browser's declarativeNetRequest API. This is a local blocking rule — it stops requests from leaving your browser; it does not route them through Reddit Lite's own servers (Reddit Lite has no servers).

Data sent to Dodo Payments (Pro license only)
Reddit Lite's Pro tier is a one-time purchase handled by Dodo Payments. Two separate things happen here, and they are handled differently:

1. Purchase. Clicking "Buy Pro" opens Dodo Payments' own checkout page in a new tab. Any payment details, email address, or billing information you enter there go directly to Dodo Payments — Reddit Lite never sees or handles them. That transaction is covered by Dodo Payments' own privacy policy.
2. License activation. After purchase, you paste your license key into the extension to activate Pro. At that point, and periodically afterward (roughly every 3 days, to confirm the license is still valid) or when you remove the license, the extension sends the following to Dodo Payments' License API (https://live.dodopayments.com/licenses/...):

The license key you entered
A randomly generated identifier created on first activation (e.g. reddit-lite-3f9a...), used only so Dodo Payments can distinguish separate installs against your key's activation limit — it is not derived from your identity, browsing activity, or any Reddit data
No name, email, IP-linked profile, or Reddit account information is sent by the extension itself as part of this check. Removing your license clears this identifier from local storage and deactivates it with Dodo Payments.

What Reddit Lite never does:
Never reads, collects, or transmits the content of the Reddit pages you visit
Never tracks your browsing history across sites
Never includes third-party analytics or advertising SDKs
Never sells or shares data with anyone other than Dodo Payments, and only for the license check described above

Permissions used:
Storage - Save your settings, mute rules, and license state locally
DeclarativeNetRequest - Block Reddit's own telemetry requests
ActiveTab - Apply Reddit Lite's changes to the Reddit tab you're viewing
Alarms - Schedule the periodic Pro license re-check
Notifications - Show local notifications for features like focus mode
Host_permissions: live.dodopayments.com - Talk to Dodo Payments' License API to activate/validate/deactivate Pro.

Children's privacy
Reddit Lite is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy
If Reddit Lite's data practices change, this document will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change.
