Night Better od Joel Lisenby

Night Better is a personal add-on for Firefox 157 Nova. It puts a proxy switch on the toolbar, and it ships the chrome CSS that a static theme cannot apply.

Pair it with the Night Neutral theme, or any other. Chrome colors come from the theme. This add-on covers proxy, corner radius, tab spacing, and hiding Share.

Toolbar

The Night Better button lives on the toolbar. Drag it next to the hamburger menu from Customize Toolbar.

Proxy turns your existing Firefox proxy on and off. The options page is a Connection Settings form filled from your current Firefox proxy. Host, port, PAC URL, type, SOCKS, and bypass stay as you already had them until you change a control. Off is a direct connection. Right-click the button for Toggle proxy or Proxy settings. Firefox Connection Settings stays locked while Night Better owns the proxy, so the add-on form is the editor.

Allow the add-on in Private Windows: about:addons → ... next to Night Better → Manage → Run in Private Windows → Allow. Firefox uses one proxy setting for normal and private windows, so proxy.settings.set() is refused without that permission. The switch stays locked until you grant it. Temporary add-ons need this granted again after each load.

Chrome CSS

A signed add-on cannot restyle browser chrome on Firefox Release. Copy userChrome.css into your profile once:

1. about:config → toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets → true
2. about:support → Profile Folder → Open Folder
3. Create a chrome folder if it is missing
4. Copy userChrome.css from the options page (Chrome CSS setup in the toolbar popup)
5. Restart Firefox

That stylesheet:

• Scales Nova radius tokens from 0 (square) to Nova's defaults (tabs, urlbar, panels, buttons)
• Shrinks tab padding above, below, and between tabs
• Hides Share Firefox in the app menu so it is not next to About Firefox
• Leaves chrome colors to the active theme (Night Neutral or any other)

Leave browser.nova.enabled on. The options page slider sets corner radius from 0 (square) to 100 (Nova). Copy the CSS again after you change it.

Re-copy the file after you install a new version. Firefox does not pick up an add-on CSS change on its own.

Night Neutral

Install the Night Neutral theme as well. Firefox treats a static theme and an extension as two packages.
