Languages do not live in word lists. They live in articles, stories, documentation, videos and the sentences you happen to be reading. Verlang brings the dictionary to that moment.

🔎 Understand words in their natural habitat

Select a word on a webpage or in supported YouTube and Netflix subtitles. Verlang examines the surrounding sentence, finds the dictionary form even when an inflection or a separated particle makes it difficult to recognize, and identifies the meaning that fits the context. If the selected word belongs to a larger expression, Verlang can recognize the expression as a whole instead of interpreting each word in isolation. You can save that expression and practise it throughout Verlang just as you would a word.

Select several words and Verlang translates the complete phrase in context, then breaks it down word by word. You can see what the phrase means as a whole and understand how its individual parts contribute to that meaning.

🧩 Go beyond a translation

Depending on the language and selected word, Verlang can show:

• the lemma, part of speech, pronunciation and audio;
• distinct senses, translations, usage information and examples;
• grammatical information such as gender and the relevant inflected form;
• conjugation and declension tables, with explanations of individual forms;
• synonyms, antonyms and related words;
• etymology and the history behind a word.

When a translation alone is not enough, ask Verlang to explain the meaning in context. It can point out the clues that distinguish a literal sense from a figurative, idiomatic or specialized one.

Verlang can also explain the grammar of the form in front of you: its case, gender, number, person, tense, mood, voice, agreement or role in a larger construction. Instead of giving you a rule in the abstract, it begins with the sentence you are actually reading.
