張貼於 5 年前Hi hmijail, as I tried to explain to you on GitHub: There is nothing strange about restoration failures of saved highlights for pages that change their content. In fact it's expected and I notify users in bold letters about it both on this addon page as well as on the Textmarker pages.
A restoration cannot be successful if:
1) The highlighted text is not on the page anymore (obviously) or
2) The "surrounding content" of the highlight has changed: As explained on GitHub, since DOM elements ceise to exist on page unload there is no way of saving a direct reference, which is why Textmarker has to rely on an indirect description of the highlight's location. This description holds information about the `nodeName` of the ancestor DOM elements as well as the position of those elements (i.e. 3rd child node of its parent element) and the corresp. text node's starting point of the selection. So a verbalized example description could be (a bit simplified):
"Starts at character 4 of the 3rd child node of a p-element, which is the first child of a div-element"
This is necessary, because a highlighted text could occur multiple times on a give page, so it wouldn't be sufficient on page revisit to just search for that text and highlight the first occurrence.

I *just* found this outstanding extension after searching for the *perfect* Webpage annotation add-on, so I really appreciate it! I'd *easily* give it 11 out of 10 stars if there WERE 10 (or 11) stars available! <3

Other similar tools does work on those same Pages, so it's a limitation of the extension (I didn't even wanted to save the highlights, all I really needed was marking for studying...)

If I set "Preferences/Design/Manage Colors/Override the colors specified by the page with your selection above/Always", Textmaker doesn't work. It took me longtime to figure it out.

Text Marker as the cause was hard to track down (trial and error with the extensions I use).
SYMPTOMS: My computer has 16 gb of RAM, and typically is running with 8 or 9 gb free memory. As soon as I load one of the Google workspaces I start getting pops saying (initially) trying to connect, and then repeatedly "reconnecting". The "memory commit" (observed with ProcessExplorer) quickly runs up from a few gigbytes up over 30 GB, and I've seen as much as 36 GB at the crash point. Meanwhile, the free memory runs down to a few thousand MB (MB!) and eventually to only 92 MB.
I have isolated this problem to Text Marker as the cause. I get a similar problem when doing lots of scolling through statutes, for example here: https://www.akleg.gov/basis/statutes.asp#43.55.020 - 評價 5 分,滿分 5 分來自 andcalmeida,2 年前
