LibreSearch puts a private, no-tracking search engine one click away — from your toolbar, your address bar, or your right-click menu.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Quick-search popup — Click the toolbar icon for a clean search bar with Web, Images, Videos, and News tabs. Type, hit enter, results open in a new
tab.

• Right-click anywhere — Highlight any text on any web page, right-click, and pick "Search LibreSearch for [text]". Opens results in a new tab next
to the one you're on.

• Address-bar keyword — Type "libre" followed by your query in the URL bar to search LibreSearch directly without first loading the site.

• Selectable search engine — Installing the extension adds LibreSearch to your browser's search-engine picker. Promote it to default through Settings
→ Search engine when you're ready (your choice — the extension will never change your default for you).

SETTINGS YOU CONTROL

Built-in options page lets you set:

• Default search category (Web / Images / Videos / News)
• Safe search level (Strict / Moderate / Off)
• Region preference
• Where popup searches open (new tab vs current tab)
• Theme — Auto, Dark, Light, Slate, or Sand

Settings sync across the browsers you're signed into.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

• No tracking. No analytics. No telemetry beacons.
• No host permissions — the extension cannot read, modify, or even see the pages you visit.
• No remote code execution. All JavaScript is bundled inside the extension.
• No selling of user data. No advertising profile. Nothing to sell because nothing is collected.
• Does NOT silently change your default search engine. You stay in control.

PERMISSIONS, EXPLAINED

Only two permissions are requested:

• "contextMenus" — adds the right-click "Search LibreSearch for X" entry. Only sees text you explicitly highlight and choose to send.

• "storage" — persists your preferences across browser sessions and devices via the browser's own sync.

Zero host_permissions are declared. Compare this against the average extension that asks for "read and change all your data on websites you visit."

• Prefer extensions that ask for as little as physically possible
