Google Docs has no dark mode. This adds one.

The interface goes dark — menus, toolbar, sidebar, document tabs, dialogs — and the page itself is inverted so you get light text on a dark page instead of a white sheet burning through a dark browser.

What you can change

Theme variant — Normal is a soft charcoal for a lit room. Midnight is true black, for OLED screens and dark rooms.
Accent colour — one hue drives links, selection, active toolbar buttons and the settings panel. Optionally it also tints coloured content in your document, while leaving link blue where it is.
Page background — keep the plain inverted black, match the surrounding interface, or set any colour you like.
Invert — choose how document content is flipped: keep colours recognisable, drop them to grey, push toward deeper blacks, or leave the page white and keep only the dark interface.
Border — show or hide the page edge and shadow.

Open the settings from the toolbar icon, the small button on the page, or Alt+Shift+S. Alt+Shift+D toggles dark mode. Changes apply immediately to every open document.

Good to know

Docs paints your text to a canvas, so the theme flips that canvas rather than restyling text. Images you have inserted get flipped along with it — set Invert to Off for image-heavy documents.

This add-on runs on Google Docs documents only. It collects nothing, sends nothing, and stores your settings in your own browser.
