Basis runs in your browser. It does not create an account and does not sell data.
What stays on the device
- Your unit and “show unit prices” settings (browser.storage.local on this device).
- A short log of recent runs: grocery hostname, cards found, cards rewritten, and any error string. No product names, no prices, no URLs, no query strings.
Parsing and rewriting happen on the grocery page. Grocery text does not leave the machine unless you choose to send a report.
What you can send
The popup Report a problem button copies the local log to your clipboard and opens a blank GitHub issue form. Nothing is sent until you paste and submit. That send is opt-in. We use it to fix banners and ship the next release.
Chrome and Firefox store dashboards show install and rating counts. We do not run Google Analytics, Mixpanel, affiliates, or ads.
Permissions
- Named Canadian grocery sites only, HTTPS (Loblaws-family banners, Walmart.ca, Metro/Maxi, Voilà, Amazon.ca, and the other hosts listed in the store description).
- storage for settings and the local log. Settings and the log stay on this device. They are not synced through a browser account.
