Privacy Policy for ProcGuard Web Monitor
Last Updated: October 30, 2025
Thank you for choosing ProcGuard. This Privacy Policy is meant to help you understand what information the ProcGuard Web Monitor browser extension (the "Extension") collects, why it collects it, and how it is handled.
This policy applies solely to the Extension. The Extension is designed to work in conjunction with the ProcGuard desktop application (the "Desktop App"), and this policy will also clarify the relationship between the two.
1. The Single Purpose of the Extension
The ProcGuard Extension has a single, narrow purpose: to act as a bridge between your web browser and the ProcGuard Desktop App installed on your own computer. Its function is to monitor your web activity and enforce website blocking rules that you, the user, have configured in the Desktop App.
2. What Information We Collect
The Extension collects the following types of data:
- Web History: We collect the URLs (e.g.,
https://www.example.com/page) of the websites you visit. - Website Metadata: We collect the title of the webpages you visit and the URL of the website's favicon.
The Extension DOES NOT collect any of the following:
* Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as your name, email address, or physical address.
* Authentication information such as passwords, credentials, or security questions.
* Financial or payment information.
* Any content you type into forms, emails, or other fields on a webpage.
* The content (text, images, videos) of the websites you visit, other than the page title and favicon URL.
3. How We Use Your Information
The data collected is used exclusively to provide the core features of the ProcGuard application, which are controlled by you.
- Web History data (URLs) is used to populate the browsing history log within your local Desktop App. This allows you to review your own browsing activity. This data is also used to check against the blocklist you configure in the Desktop App.
- Website Metadata (Title and Favicon) is used to provide a richer, more user-friendly display of your browsing history within the Desktop App.
4. Data Storage, Security, and Sharing
This is the most important section of our privacy policy.
- Local-Only Architecture: The ProcGuard Extension operates on a "local-only" principle. All data collected by the Extension is sent only to the ProcGuard Desktop App running on the same machine.
- No Remote Servers: Your data is NEVER sent to, stored on, or processed by any remote servers, cloud services, or third-party databases. We, the developers of ProcGuard, have no access to your data.
- No Data Sharing: Because we never have your data, we do not and cannot sell, transfer, or share your data with any third parties.
- Secure Communication: The communication between the Extension and the Desktop App happens locally on your computer via the secure Native Messaging protocol provided by the browser.
5. User Control and Consent
You are in full control of the data collection. The collection of data is directly tied to the functioning of the ProcGuard system. If you do not wish for your data to be collected, you can disable or uninstall the Extension at any time.
6. Compliance with Chrome Web Store Policies
We certify that our use of the collected data adheres strictly to the Chrome Web Store's User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The data is used solely for the item's single purpose as described in Section 1 and is not used to determine creditworthiness, for lending purposes, or transferred to any third parties for purposes unrelated to the item's single purpose.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
