Veivi — Lauri Oksanen

Veivi is a Firefox extension that lets you open selected links in your system's default browser instead of the current Firefox profile.

It is designed for users who run dedicated Firefox profiles, such as those used for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), and want certain links to open externally.

When you click a link while holding Ctrl or ⌘ Command (and not holding Alt or Shift), Veivi prevents the link from opening in the current Firefox profile and opens it in your system's default browser instead.

All other clicks behave normally.

Opening links in an external browser requires a native messaging host, a Python script, that receives URLs from the extension and opens them using the operating system's default browser. This must be installed separately from https://github.com/l-oksanen/veivi.

Veivi requires the following permissions:

• Native Messaging Required to communicate with a local helper script that launches links in the system's default browser.
• Access to web pages (content scripts) Needed to detect modified link clicks initiated by the user.
