Spectra turns whatever you are already listening to into a full-screen visual.

Click the toolbar icon on any tab that is playing sound and the page becomes a canvas reacting to the music in real time.

There is nothing to set up. No account, no sign-in, no configuration.

NEW — MOVE WITH THE MUSIC

Switch on your camera and eight of the visuals start moving with you. Wave a hand and it leaves a trail of light behind it. Push a cloud of embers around the screen. Drop ripples into a sheet of water, or send a wall of tiles turning as you cross the room.

The camera stays off until you turn it on. Nothing it sees leaves your browser or is stored anywhere.

WINDOWED MODE

Press the pop-out button and the visualizer leaves the page for a small window that floats above everything else — over your editor, on a second display, on the TV. The tab goes back to being an ordinary background tab and keeps playing.
The controls come with it, so you can change visualizer and color without going back to find the tab.

WHAT SPECTRA DOES

• 24 visualizers, drawn on canvas and driven by live frequency analysis:
Attractor, Aurora, Bars, Blob, Circular Wave, Curl Flow, DNA,
Kaleidoscope, Liquid Light, Particles, Phosphor, Phyllotaxis,
Plasma, Quasicrystal, Reaction, Silk, Slime Mold, Slow Burn, Starfield, Strings, Terrain, Tunnel, Voronoi and Waveform.

• 8 more that move with your camera as well as the music: Constellation, Mosaic, Motion, Plume, Ripples, Sparks, Warp and Waterfall. They react to the audio on their own; the camera adds your movement.

• Pop-out window. The visual on top of every other application, in a window you can size and place, while you get on with something else.

• Color controls. Hue, saturation and brightness sliders reshape any visualizer's palette, plus sliders for the visualizer's own opacity and for how far the page behind is dimmed — from a solid backdrop to a faint overlay on the live page.

• Pass-through mode makes the overlay transparent and click-through, so you can reach the page underneath while the visuals keep running, faded. Opacity is remembered separately for each mode.

WHY INSTALL SPECTRA

Because music is better with something to look at. Spectra works on the tab you already have open, on the service you already pay for, with one click.

• No host permissions. It cannot read any website. It is granted access to a single tab, only when you click its icon, and only until you leave that page.
• No network access of any kind. It makes no requests.
• No accounts, no tracking, no analytics, no ads.
• Your audio never leaves the tab. It is analysed in your browser, frame by frame, and never recorded, stored or transmitted.
• The camera, if you turn it on, is the same. Frames are reduced to a coarse map of what moved and thrown away; no image is kept, and nothing is uploaded.

Your settings are stored locally on your own machine.

A NOTE ON HOW SPECTRA HEARS AUDIO

Spectra reads your tab's audio directly, which is what lets it work with protected streams and embedded players.

Nothing is recorded. Audio is analyzed as it plays.



• New: camera motion. Eight visualizers driven by what the camera sees:
Motion, Sparks, Ripples, Warp, Waterfall, Plume, Constellation and Mosaic


• New: auto-cycle. The ↻ button in the control bar, or A, lets the music choose the visualizer
• Support for adblockers that block the pop-out visualizer window
• Rebuilt the Attractor visualizer


• New: pop out. The ⧉ button, or P, moves the visualizer into a small popup window.


• New: fullscreen button (⛶, or the F key) fullscreens the visualizer window
• Microphone is no longer requested unless selected
