Page Aid adds a toolbar button and a keyboard shortcut (customizable) that open a small panel on the current page. Type a question and the page's text is sent with it to the AI endpoint you configured; the answer streams into the panel. Follow-up questions continue the conversation, text you had highlighted on the page is included, and there is a one-click "Summarize this page" option. The panel can be dragged by its title bar, resized, and collapsed.
BYOK - Two provider types are supported: OpenAI-compatible endpoints (OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Groq, Z.ai, and local Ollama or LM Studio) and Anthropic's native API for Claude. The settings page has presets for these, can fetch your provider's model list, and includes a connection test. Ofc if you've set up a local model it needs no API key and keeps everything on your machine.
The extension cannot read any page until you invoke it there: clicking the button or pressing the shortcut is what grants access, to that tab only. There are no content scripts running on every site and no "access your data for all websites" permission. Access to your AI provider's host is requested once, the first time you save it in settings. Your API key is stored locally in the browser and sent only to the endpoint you chose. There is no server behind this extension, no account, and no analytics.
