Kokoro Web — Ajay Tripathi

Kokoro Web reads text aloud in your browser using kokoro-tts running on your own computer. Nothing is sent to the cloud, and the developer does not receive your text or audio.

• Popup — paste text, choose voice and speed, play/pause/stop
• Context menu — select text → right-click → Read with Kokoro
• Read page — right-click → Read page with Kokoro, or use Read page in the popup
• Read-along sidebar — follow along while text is spoken (Firefox sidebar)

Setup

This extension is a bridge only. It does not include the TTS engine or voices. Before use:

1. Install kokoro-tts and download the model files
2. Install the native messaging bridge:
3. pip install kokoro-web
4. kokoro-web-setup firefox
5. Restart Firefox and click Test connection in the extension

Privacy

When you choose to read text, that text is sent from the extension to a native messaging host on your computer (kokoro-web-host), which calls your local kokoro-tts binary. Temporary files are deleted after synthesis.

• No accounts, no analytics, no ads
• No data sent to the developer or third-party servers
• Preferences (voice, speed, paths) may sync via Firefox Sync if you enable it

Permissions Explained

• Native messaging — talk to the local com.kokoro.web host on your machine
• Access active tab — read page text only when you trigger read-aloud
• Run scripts on pages you visit — one-shot script to extract readable text when you ask
• Access browser tabs — find the active tab and manage the read-along sidebar
• Context menus — add "Read with Kokoro" entries to the right-click menu
• Storage — save voice, speed, and optional path settings
• Write to clipboard — copy setup commands in the onboarding screen when you click Copy
