If you cannot enable "Also insert directly", maybe it's because you deny the permission? In that case, go to Addons (about:addons), select "Emoji" and in the "Permissions" tab be sure you enabled the permission "Access your data for all websites" (which permits to insert directly in the websites).

The “insert directly” for now works only for website which use “textarea” or “input”. For example Facebook doesn’t use those. Sorry
