Records the steps you take in a web app and turns them into illustrated how-to guides and training courses with certificates.
StepCert turns one run-through of a task in your web browser into a clear, illustrated how-to guide, and into a training course where people show they can do the task themselves.
StepCert needs a subscription: £99 a year for one person in the UK ($120 in the US, €120 in the euro area), with no limit on guides, courses or learners. Buy it at stepcert.com, then sign in with your email address and licence key. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee, and stepcert.com has a demo you can try before you buy.
How it works
Press Start recording and use the web app as you normally would. Each click or entry becomes a step with a screenshot, a box around what you clicked, and a sentence written for you, such as "Click the Save button". Passwords and card numbers are never recorded.
When you stop, open the editor to reorder steps, change the wording and add notes. Merge several clicks into one numbered picture, zoom in on small controls, and hide anything private with a blur, pixelation or a solid block. StepCert notices names, email addresses and phone and card numbers as it records, and can hide them for you in one click. Then export the guide as a document, a slide deck, a web page or a short video, with your own logo and colours. Web pages have a list of steps down the side so readers can jump to the part they need, and the video can come as a page of its own with every step listed beside it: click a step and the video goes straight there.
Training that proves ability, not attendance
StepCert can package the same walkthrough as a course for your learning management system. Learners first watch the walkthrough, then repeat it from memory at three levels of difficulty. Passing a level earns a certificate with the learner's name, and your learning system records the result and how each step went. It works well for inductions, compliance training and new system rollouts.
Easy to hand over
Save a walkthrough as a single file and send it to a colleague. They can open it in their own copy of StepCert, correct or finish it, and update the course, without recording everything again.
Private by design
Your recordings and screenshots stay in your browser on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to us or to anyone else, and there is no AI service involved. The only information StepCert sends is what it needs to check your licence: your email address and licence key when you sign in, then a sign-in token about once a day. There are no ads, analytics or tracking.
Also included
• Undo and redo that work in both the side panel and the editor, and find and replace
• Capture any window or screen, such as a desktop program, and add it to a guide
• Works across tabs and windows, with keyboard shortcuts
• Use it on up to three browsers, and offline for up to seven days
• Guides and courses you have made keep working if you cancel
