DistractBlocker — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-20
DistractBlocker (the browser extension and the companion desktop application) does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, or website content to any external server.
What the extension does locally, on your own device:
Reads the URL of the page you're currently viewing, only to check it against the Block Profiles you configured yourself in the DistractBlocker desktop app.
Scans the text content of pages you visit locally, only to check for keywords you've chosen to block.
Communicates with the DistractBlocker desktop app running on the SAME computer, using Chrome's Native Messaging feature — this connection never leaves your device.
If you use the optional PIN-protected "Why blocked?" reveal, the PIN you enter is checked locally against the desktop app — never sent anywhere else.
Stores your extension preferences (such as badge display settings) locally in Chrome's own storage.
What DistractBlocker never does:
Never sends your browsing history, visited URLs, page content, or PIN to any server.
Never sells or shares any data with third parties, because no data ever leaves your device in the first place.
Contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising code.
