StreamFluency by StreamFluency
Open an episode and the original-language subtitles are already there, in sync. Every word is colored by your level, tap to learn it, and each saved word keeps the scene it came from. Netflix, YouTube, Crunchyroll and Viki.

About this extension
Any video becomes a language lesson.
Studying with streaming used to mean hunting for a subtitle file, guessing which version matches the episode and syncing it by hand. With StreamFluency you just open the episode: the subtitles in the language you're learning are already on screen, in sync, under your own language.
Subtitles in the original language, automatically. Official tracks and native-speaker transcriptions when they exist. When nobody has transcribed an episode yet, we do it.
Words colored by what you know. Every word in the subtitle shows up as new, learning or known, and your known-word count grows with each episode. It works in Japanese, Chinese and Thai too, which don't put spaces between words, with furigana and pinyin when you want them.
Vocabulary with the scene attached. Saving a word keeps the full sentence and the exact second it was said. Months later, one click takes you back to the scene. Review with spaced repetition.
Ask instead of searching. A dictionary explains a word on its own. The assistant sees the current line and explains slang, register and why an expression means what it means.
Works on Netflix, YouTube, Crunchyroll and Viki. Subtitles and vocabulary are free; you only need a StreamFluency account. The extension reads the subtitles your player already loads and never downloads the video.
