Terminal Control for Firefox Autor: iatsiuk

firefox-ctl lets a terminal, a script or an LLM agent drive Firefox: open a managed window, navigate, read page text and structure, click, type and press keys, wait for elements, take screenshots, and read console output and network requests.

The add-on does nothing on its own. It talks over native messaging to the firefox-ctl command-line tool, which you install separately and register with firefox-ctl install:

Archives for macOS (arm64) and Linux (amd64, arm64) are on the GitHub releases page. Commands, parameters and examples are documented in the repository.

Privacy. Everything a command reads out of a page goes to that local program on your machine and nowhere else. The add-on opens no network connection of its own and collects no telemetry. Nothing from a private browsing window is written to disk.

Preferences. Two settings live in the add-on preferences (about:addons, firefox-ctl, Preferences). The evaluate command, which runs arbitrary JavaScript in a page, is off until you tick it there; no terminal flag can turn it on. Credential-bearing response headers (Set-Cookie, Authorization and their kin) are redacted from getNetworkRequests output by default, with an opt-out on the same page.
