by Murphy's Puppet, 7 bliain ó shinI have tested this add-on using English, Japanese and Spanish text, and its yield has been surprisingly successful. Not perfect, but good enough.
I tried it on complex and difficult to read text (from blurry or pixelated photos) and the results, although not completely accurate, were sufficiently close, and in some cases 100% perfect after a few retries.
Copyfish cannot read vertical text at all (such as Chinese or Japanese) but horizontally formatted text is generally not a problem.
There are some quirks with it and the interface can be fiddly. A few times I found myself having to reload the whole page from the browser in order to make the add-on retry the OCR work since the buttons just stopped responding, but it was never more than a small time-consuming problem.
All-in-all this add-on may very well save you a lot of time typing from an image, specially if you don't have the means or ability to type from a language that uses a different alphabet than your own, be that Latin, Cyrillic or Hiragana.

- Rated 5 out of 5by FFme, 7 míonna ó shinI'm using it to copy text from Amazon Kindle books. The line breaks aren't great, but that's too be expected. Works great otherwise. Thanks for the great work.

- Rated 3 out of 5by zgorg, bliain ó shinthere is a bug: under firefox, shortcut only works after having run once (headbar icon)
I reduce my notation for the fact that you have to go on a site to report a bug and having to register.

- Rated 5 out of 5by gablw, 2 bliain ó shinI have been happily surprised by how well Copyfish works with text on images and book covers where there is multi-colored background, are usual fonts, text at somewhat of an angle, text that has been significantly enlarged to the point the letters are less solid, and more, and in other situations where I thought the text would be too challenging. Thanks so much, developers!

Works on images. Pop-up page when install should tell you to set up source language presets in settings (select engine 1) before using it, autodetect is not included in the free version. You can usually find the language by translating some surrounding text with google translate. - Rated 5 out of 5by danc2, 2 bliain ó shin
