Torval di jacobgerritz
Torval collects nothing.
There is no account, no telemetry, no analytics and no crash reporting. Nothing you read, look up, mark as known or add to Anki leaves your computer, and none of it is visible to anybody but you.
What is stored, and where
Everything is kept in your own browser profile and deleted with the add-on: the dictionaries, your known and ignored word lists, your Anki settings, which language you are reading, your shortcuts and display settings, the books you add to the reader, and for each video you open in the player, its subtitle timing and where you stopped. Videos you open in the player are read where they are on your disk; nothing is copied or uploaded.
What Torval connects to
Only these, each the direct result of something you asked for. Nothing is contacted in the background.
- The video site you are watching (YouTube, Netflix): the subtitle track of the video you have open, the same request the player itself makes.
- AnkiConnect on your own machine (127.0.0.1:8765), only when you add a card or open the Anki settings.
- assets.languagepod101.com, for a Japanese word's pronunciation, only when a card you are making asks for word audio. The request contains the word.
- upload.wikimedia.org, for an Italian, Spanish or English word's pronunciation, under the same condition.
- translate.google.com, only when you click Google Translate in a popup. It opens in a new tab like any other link.
- gettorval.com, once, if you remove Torval: the browser opens a page asking why. Nothing is sent unless you press Send, and then only what you ticked or typed, with no name or address.
