ChatIndex processes data from supported AI chat websites only to provide its core features.
Data accessed
- The current tab URL/hostname on supported AI sites.
- The visible conversation text and page structure needed to build the sidebar index, search results, scroll targets, exports, and transfer features.
- Extension settings, saved folders, and saved chats created by the user.
How the data is used
- To generate the conversation index and section list in the sidebar.
- To enable full-text search and scroll navigation.
- To save chats locally into folders.
- To export/import chat context.
- To perform user-requested “Continue In”, “Ask To”, and sharing actions.
Storage
- Settings, saved folders, saved chats, and other add-on state are stored locally in Firefox extension storage on the user’s device.
When data leaves the device
- Conversation data is not sent to the developer by default.
- If the user clicks “Share Chat”, the selected conversation is uploaded to Google Firestore only to create or retrieve a short share code.
- If the user uses “Continue In” or “Ask To”, the selected text or context is inserted into the destination AI website chosen by the user.
Retention
- Locally stored data remains until the user deletes it or uninstalls the add-on.
- Shared chat data created through the share feature remains available until removed from the backing service or the feature is discontinued.
Data sale / tracking
- ChatIndex does not sell personal data.
- ChatIndex does not use conversation data for advertising.
- ChatIndex does not perform cross-site tracking outside the supported AI pages where the add-on is active.
