OpenSubs Privacy Policy

OpenSubs does not collect, store or transmit any personal data.

Audio: When you press Start, OpenSubs captures the audio of the video or audio element playing in the current tab and transcribes it on your own device with the Whisper speech model (WebAssembly / WebGPU). Audio is never uploaded or sent anywhere.

Subtitles: Generated subtitles stay in your browser. They are only saved to your computer if you click "Save .srt".

Settings: Your preferences (model, language, CPU/GPU choice, subtitle size, overlay on/off) are stored locally with the browser's storage API and are never sent to any server.

Network: The only network requests are downloads of the open speech-recognition model files from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) the first time a model is used. No audio, subtitles, browsing data or identifiers are included in these requests.

Site access: OpenSubs asks for access to a website only when you press Start on that site, and uses it only to read the playing media's audio.

No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no ads.
