About this extension
Siesta unloads tabs you haven't used for a while, so Firefox can free the memory they hold. The tab stays in your tab bar and reloads the moment you click it again.
What makes it different: you decide per tab. Keep Microsoft Teams loaded for 10 minutes after you leave it, a news site for an hour, and never touch your music tab. Everything happens in the toolbar popup – there is no separate options page.
Timers
- Own timer for any tab: never, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours, or a custom time up to 24 hours. It sticks to the tab, even across a browser restart.
- Site rules: one timer for every tab of a site, e.g. teams.microsoft.com.
- An optional default for all other tabs (off out of the box).
- A tab's own rule beats a site rule, which beats the default.
Overview
- See which tabs are loaded and which are unloaded, with a live countdown for each tab and the one that unloads next.
- A small moon wanes as a tab gets closer to being unloaded.
- Unload single tabs, the current tab or all inactive tabs by hand – also from the tab context menu, for several selected tabs at once.
Stays out of your way
- Tabs playing audio and tabs sharing camera, microphone or screen stay loaded; when the audio stops, the timer starts over.
- Pinned tabs are only unloaded with their own rule or a site rule.
- The tab you're on is never unloaded automatically.
- One switch pauses everything.
Stats
Unloads of the last 7 days (automatic and by hand), the sites unloaded most often, recent unloads and how many unloaded tabs you reopened later.
Privacy
Siesta collects no data and sends nothing anywhere. Settings, rules and stats stay in your browser.
