About this extension
Image Tools compresses, resizes, converts, rotates, flips and crops pictures on your device. It runs in the Firefox sidebar. Nothing is sent to a server.

What it does
  • Compress: make a JPG, PNG or WebP file smaller and choose the quality. JPG files are encoded with MozJPEG, which usually gives a smaller file than the browser's own encoder at the same quality. PNG compression is lossless: the pixels stay exactly the same.
  • Convert: save a picture as JPG, PNG or WebP.
  • Resize: set a new width and height in pixels, with the aspect ratio locked or unlocked.
  • Edit: rotate left or right, flip horizontally or vertically, and crop with a draggable box. Choose a ratio such as 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or keep the original, or use the keyboard to move and resize the box.
  • Copy: put the result on the clipboard as a PNG, ready to paste.
  • Location data: if a JPEG photo contains GPS coordinates, you are warned and can remove them. The picture itself is not changed or re-encoded.

How to use it
  1. Right-click a picture on a web page and choose "Edit image with Image Tools". Or click the toolbar icon to open the sidebar.
  2. Choose a file, drop one on the sidebar, or paste with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. Files up to 50 MB are accepted.
  3. Pick Compress, Convert, Resize or Edit, then download or copy the result.

Privacy
  • Processing happens in the browser. Files do not leave the device.
  • There is no account, no analytics and no ads.
  • To read a picture you right-clicked, the extension first asks for access to that one site. Site access can be removed in the sidebar settings.
  • Access to all sites is not requested at install.

Limits
  • Output formats are JPG, PNG and WebP.
  • Pictures above 50 MB or 50 megapixels are not opened in the sidebar.
  • The same functions, plus bulk and phone use, run in any browser at https://brownie.tools/image-tools/
