Tab Groups

Lots of changes; questionable UX decisions Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Version 1 of tab groups was exactly the functionality that was removed from Firefox, no more and no less. It was good. Version 2 is not necessarily a great upgrade.

After upgrading, the behavior of tab groups abruptly changed. The options screen had terminology I was unfamiliar with and it wasn't immediately obvious how to return to old behavior (I eventually found the "free arrange" button). I don't really trust the developer not to yank the rug out from under me again.

Animation when switching to (free arrange) group view has been removed. While this makes it feel slightly snappier, it makes the plugin harder to use. Animation was an important visual cue showing where the tab you were just looking at had been minimized.

Other questionable new UI decisions include burying the tab group thumbnail view (the reason I'm using the plugin) in a menu by default, adding inconsistent terminology (single view, grid layout, grid display, free arrange), and moving buttons around randomly depending on which layout/view/display/arrangement (just pick a term already!) you're using. Also, free arrange looks kinda ugly now.

V2 is also more spammy. A tab opened with release notes on upgrade. The options have a bouncing icon in the bottom left corner. Clicking on it shows a banner ad. One of the first times I opened group view, a popup appeared asking me to give the developer money. If it gets much worse, I'm just going to fork the plugin and run version 1 forever.

The new "single view" mode isn't even bad. I'm just frustrated that the classic "free arrange" mode I installed the plugin for is suddenly worse.

Custom Tab Width

Does what it says, works fine Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Never had it break; using it in Firefox 46 with no issues.

Awesome, except... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Everything about the extension is great except for the Tab Groups drop target. I've lost so many tab groups to it accidentally that I've uninstalled the extension.
