Enhancer for YouTube™

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Makes YouTube better!

P.S. To the extension author - I am not "selfish" for not rating this sooner (as you wrote in your last update) I just have a busy life (some of which is spent helping people for free). I don't always remember to do things like this. I am sure others are in the same position. There is no need to insult people by implication to get them to do something - you could have just asked.

I love that I can just turn this addon on and forget about it and it just works. Turning it off, if an important part of a site doesn't load properly, and then turning it on again after is very easy.

The only downside is, although it is very configurable, the deep settings are confusing. Fortunately, the out-of-the-box, basic experience is very good so most people will not need to do any configuring.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.14.24).

NoScript Security Suite

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

EDIT: OK after some time playing around with the settings I understand it much better and the functionality appears to work well. I suggest people experiment with the settings a bit, or check out the noscript forum where there are some explanations of the UI if you find the relevant threads.

In the meantime, I will keep my 2-star rating until a proper help guide to the UI is incorporated into the addon as a link, and an on-boarding process for new installations includes a pop up alerting users to the guide as this is sorely needed, especially for users of the old add-on. This rating reflects my experience as a new user, not my experience now, as this is more relevant to potential new users reading these reviews.

I agree with others that I do not really know how to use this addon any more whereas I had perfect intuition of it pre-57 days. The interface is non-intuitive and is not really explained anywhere. After some time I think I am beginning to understand it but I am still not sure because I cannot reference what I think against official documentation. The latter would help a lot.

I don't blame the addon developer, as he probably had to develop it in his spare time in time for release 57. i acknowledge the effort to upgrade the addon to the new API while many other developers gave up. Thank you, Giorgio for that.

I do blame Mozilla somewhat for switching to a substandard extension API and not having certain vital API features available to developers to test until very late (and some not even yet existing). I realise there were some reasons to make the change, but they should have considered the effect on the existing users and developers and tried to mitigate it somehow.

While I agree that expressing such anger in obscene words is inappropriate, it is appropriate to give an honest review and rating. My rating expresses what I currently think about this addon and is by no means an emotional reaction to change.

I am sure that many improvements will come and user feedback will be acknowledged by the developer. I encourage him to ignore the insults and continue. My review and rating will improve as the addon improves in my estimation.

I am enjoying continued use of this excellent add-on. Hopefully, the Webextensions API will improve to the point where it can be used as before. Thanks to the developer for the hard work getting it to were it is today which was a lot to do after all his previous hard work was rendered inoperable due to Mozilla's poor decisions in implementing only an incomplete/ineffective new extensions API.

Edit: I am enjoying continuing to use this excellent add-on by switching to the Waterfox browser available from https://www.waterfoxproject.org/

This extension has meant a lot to me over the time it has been alive. If I could donate enough to keep it alive for Firefox 57 I would but, even if I could, I fear it is now too late.

I will be switching to Waterfox as my main browser to keep using this extension, as well as the Session Manager and the Scrapbook extensions (which, between them, my entire online life is managed and I cannot do without).

Whatever happens, I would like to thank you very much, Quicksaver, for all the love and hard work you have put into this and other extensions. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

This extension contains almost my entire online life and it will not be the same without it. If it would keep it alive for Firefox 57 and would donate again and again. But I fear it is now too late for that. If necessary, I will switch to Waterfox as my main browser just to keep using this, and the Scrapbook extension (about which I could say the same thing). Whatever happens, I thank you very much, Michael, for every bit of love and work you have put into this. May it be returned to you in some way multiplied, both financial and otherwise.

Extension List Dumper

Does not work and no longer updated. It should be removed from the addon repository.

Open Link in Zombie Tab

Very useful to save memory.

EPUBReader

One of the best and most useful add-ons around. Thanks so much for making it!

Tab Groups

For keeping this addon alive the dev gets my praise. The evolution of the removed Firefox feature is nice. I am not entirely sure how useful the new features will be but as long as it doesn't over-complicate things or make the code harder to maintain it is OK.

Already the improvement I notice is it is much easier than before to move tabs around and organise them. Kudos!

Please keep this addon as simple as possible.

Thanks.

No sign of the addon appeared in the browser after installation and restart except for the listing in about:addons. It should probably be marked as incompatible with the latest version of Firefox.

EDS Calendar Integration

...in Ubuntu 14.04 and Thunderbird 31. No start up problems or delays. Events immediately sychronized after installing the addon and restarting Thunderbird.

Thanks!

OpenAttribute

It was causing Firefox to freeze every 10 seconds for 10 seconds whenever I had a tab open to YouTube or a website with YouTube embedded videos. I disabled each addon individually and determined it was this addon causing the freezing.

Other than that, it is a good idea for an addon and, as a web developer, very useful to know the licenses on content. But the freezing of Firefox needs to be fixed before I will enable it again.

SettingSanity

Thanks so much for creating this. It's people like you that keep me a part of the Firefox/Mozilla community.

If the Mozilla devs mess up (I'm not saying they did or didn't in this case) then there will always be an addon developer to fix things.

This addon does that job perfectly. Please do add the other tab bar option. Thanks.

Simpleology is a suite of on-line tools and training concepts that are designed to help you simplify your life and become more productive.

This addon, as a part of the entire suite of Simpleology productivity tools, is an essential part of my day. Being able to add important websites and any ideas that come to mind into the "dreamcatcher" is an important thing to help me stay on track with my work. I get easily distracted by reading articles on the web and often have to read reference manuals and developer documents online for work. This addon gives me somewhere to put links to look at later and ideas for tasks that come to mind.

The addon won't be of use to you without the whole Simpleology philosophy and package and it interfaces with their system but If you haven't heard of Simpleology or tried it before the addon description gives you a good idea of what it is and you can become a member for free. I recommend giving it a try. I am sure you will happily become a life-long "Simpleologist"! :)

Manually sort folders

Very happy with it, especially since FolderPane Tools doesn't seem to be working for me any more in TB 3.0.4.

Lightning

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I don't often review addons but lightning is probably one of the best and my most used addon for Thunderbird.

If you are reviewing and rating Lightning for use with Thunderbird 3 you are reviewing a product that doesn't exist yet. Please stop posting the one-star reviews. This review page is for the *latest release* of Lightning that works for Thunderbird 2 builds.

Please don't review this excellent work one star and demotivate the excellent developers who give their time freely to this project.

(TB 3 has only *just* come out. Software releases don't always coincide... especially in the open source world which depend on donations and freely-given man-power resources. If you follow the release notes and version numbering (as you should) you will see that Lightning 0.9 is only compatible up to TB 2. DO NOT install TB 3 if you want to use Lightning until Lightning release for this version is ready (or try the test release of Lightning given by other reviewers below -- if you do this, back up your calendars regularly and be prepared for possible problems). Please have the patience to wait for the next release of Lightning before submitting reviews for that version.)

P.S. If you donated to the Lightning project, instead of just complaining, it might be ready earlier.

ScrapBook

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A brilliant extension.

My only criticism is that when you capture a page links pointing to anchors on the same page should be made relative to point to the captured page rather than the original source online. At the moment tables of contents on captured pages don't work as intended because they point to the original source.
