About this extension
Time Gate puts a pause between you and the sites that eat your day. Instead of a fixed block list, it asks you every time: how much of your time does this site get?
HOW IT WORKS • Open a gated site and Time Gate asks how long you want: "for 15 minutes" or "until 3:30 PM". • "For N minutes" only counts while that site is the tab in front, adding up across tabs. • You get a heads-up a minute before the end. The toolbar badge shows the time left. • When time's up, the site locks until a reset you choose: a number of hours later, or the next day at a set time. After that, it asks again. • You can't remove a site from the list while its session is running or locked, so there's no quick way around it in the moment.
WHAT'S GATED Lists for social media, YouTube and Twitch, streaming services and adult sites come preloaded. You can edit every list and add any site of your own, straight from the toolbar button.
SEE WHERE YOUR TIME GOES Time Gate keeps track of the time you actively spend on each site. Time when you're away from the keyboard doesn't count, unless a video is playing. Reports show your time per day and your top sites, and suggest sites worth gating based on your habits.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything stays on your device. Time Gate has no account, no servers, no analytics and no ads, and never sends your browsing anywhere. Private and Incognito windows aren't tracked.
WHY IT NEEDS THESE PERMISSIONS • "Access your data for all websites": to notice when you open a gated site and show the prompt or lock screen on it, and to count time per site. • "Read your browsing history": to tell which site the tab in front belongs to. That information is used on your device only.
