About this extension
Sourcerer is an encrypted desktop app for journalists and researchers to manage sources, track outreach, and stay organized. This extension connects your browser directly to Sourcerer, letting you capture information from the web without breaking your flow.
What you can do:
Full-page screenshots — capture an entire page, including content below the fold. The extension scrolls and stitches automatically. Screenshots are stored encrypted in Sourcerer alongside the contact they're attached to.
Save selected text — highlight an email address, phone number, or note on any page, open the extension, and save it directly to a contact's record. No copying and pasting between tabs.
Add new contacts — create a contact from scratch without leaving your browser. Name, organization, email, and phone — ready to go the moment you find a new source.
Right-click menu — select text on any page, right-click, and choose Save to Sourcerer. Save it as an email, phone number, or note, or start a new contact with the selection pre-filled.
Privacy and security:
The extension only communicates with the Sourcerer desktop app running on your own machine (127.0.0.1:27371). No data is sent to any external server. All screenshots, contacts, and saved fields go directly into your local encrypted database. The extension has no access to your browsing history and cannot read pages you haven't explicitly triggered it on.
A session token issued by the desktop app authenticates every request. The token is stored in session storage only and is cleared when you close your browser.
Requirements:
Sourcerer for macOS or Windows must be installed and running. The extension will not function without it. Sourcerer is free and open source (AGPL-3.0), available at github.com/tomcardoso/sourcerer.
