FAQs

Is NiteLight free?
Yes. NiteLight is free to use.

Does NiteLight track browsing activity?
NiteLight is designed to process its filtering functionality locally. No data is send anywhere.

Do I need a account for NiteLight ?
No

Does NiteLight work with PDFs?
Yes. NiteLight can apply its PDF dark mode directly to the browser's native PDF viewer, allowing you to customize PDF colors, brightness, contrast, and presets without opening the document in a separate reader.

Can I use NiteLight on websites?
Yes. NiteLight can apply dynamic filtering and custom themes to websites, with additional CSS-based customization available in beta.

Does NiteLight require internet ?
NiteLight work completely offline.

How is NiteLight so lightweight ?
• Zero redundant code: It doesn't waste CPU cycles rebuilding a toolbar or a sidebar. It relies on the Firefox UI that is already loaded into your RAM.
• Hardware acceleration: Because NiteLight applies a CSS canvas filter, your computer's GPU handles the color inversion efficiently, keeping CPU usage near zero and saving battery life during long reading sessions.

What makes NiteLight Secure ?
NiteLight uses Browser's Native Sandbox
• Browser handles the heavy lifting: The document is still opened and processed by Browser’s highly secure, sandboxed native Pdf engine.
Other 3rd party reader extensions work by using their own PDF viewer, introducing new attack surfaces, if that extension has a unknown security flaw, a malicious PDF can hijack your computer.
• Strictly visual: NiteLight doesn't read or process the core data of your PDF; it simply sits on top as a visual stylesheet filter to change the colors you see.

How is Nitelight Monetized?
Lumex doesn't even earn a penny from this project.

Why so low user count ?
NiteLight uses bookmark on Firefox (optionally on Chromium as well) for PDF so Google/Mozilla never finds that out. Downloads number is higher.
