About this extension
Kiwami is a viewing, study, and organization companion for YouTube. It combines playback controls, focus tools, and a side panel workspace so you can watch videos at your own pace, remove interface clutter, and maintain timestamped notes linked to exact video moments.

Playback tools include adjustable speed steps, volume boost, A–B repeat loops, frame stepping, picture-in-picture helpers, saved resume positions, and
configurable keyboard shortcuts. Focus controls can hide Shorts, recommendations, comments, end cards, and related videos, alongside cinema/zen modes, quality and FPS preferences, custom CSS injection, caption styling, scheduled themes, and accessibility options (dyslexia-friendly font, high contrast, color-blind palettes). Read-only data integrations for SponsorBlock, Return YouTube Dislike, and DeArrow cleaner titles/thumbnails can be enabled separately. Live-chat keyword filters, Super Chat styling, and an on-player chat overlay cover live streams. Automated convenience options (such as confirming YouTube's "still watching?" prompt or continuing audio in a hidden tab) are off by default and controlled in Settings.

The side panel workspace provides timestamped notes, transcript search, and multi-tool study suites:
  • Notes & Transcripts: Searchable transcripts read from the video page or timedtext feeds. Notes and highlights export to Markdown, Obsidian-compatible Markdown, Anki TSV, or printable HTML. Frame grab tools save single-frame PNG screenshots and timestamped A–B clip notes; Kiwami does not record or download video streams.
  • Study Dojo: Shadowing loops, vocabulary capture, spaced-repetition review (SRS), and text-to-speech pronunciation helpers.
  • Smart Queue: Watch-later time-budget planning and queue lane scheduling.
  • Subscription Radar: Channel feed collections and keyword filtering.
  • Trust Lens: Fact-checking claim extraction from transcripts for self-directed verification.
  • Multiview Studio: Synchronized player workspace hosting up to four YouTube embeds with active cross-tab audio management.
  • Autopilot: Automated playback rules based on channel, video duration, and time of day.
  • Continuity: Encrypted cross-device sync (PBKDF2-SHA-256 + AES-GCM) of settings, notes, and queues via Chrome Sync storage (API keys are excluded).

Optional AI tools (using your own API key for a provider you choose) can summarize transcripts, answer questions, generate chapters/quizzes, and analyze comment sections (summary, sentiment, themes). Comment text, including public author handles, is sent to your chosen provider only when you explicitly trigger an AI comment action. Prompt history and analytics are stored locally. Optional voice control for core playback actions uses Chrome's built-in speech recognition service when enabled.

Kiwami stores settings, notes, and local usage statistics on your device in Chrome storage. Local watch-history analytics (totals by channel, day, and hour) are off by default. The extension requires no user account and sends zero telemetry to Selfhood Studios. API keys remain strictly in Chrome storage and are sent only to your selected AI endpoint.

To start, open any YouTube video and click the toolbar icon for playback controls, or open the side panel for notes, transcripts, and study tools.

Kiwami is an independent extension by Selfhood Studios and is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.
