About this extension
Kali Ref brings a clean, searchable, color-coded reference for Kali Linux tools directly into your Firefox sidebar.

Instantly look up what a tool is used for and its basic command syntax pattern — organized across all major Kali categories (Information Gathering, Web Application Analysis, Password Attacks, Wireless Attacks, Forensics, and more) — perfect for learning, quick recall, and daily work without switching tabs or digging through man pages.

Designed for penetration testers, security students, CTF players, system administrators, and anyone who wants a fast, visual way to recall what a Kali tool does and how it's generally invoked.

🏛 About This Reference:
Kali Linux ships a large collection of security tools across many categories, and it's easy to forget what a specific tool does or how its command is typically structured. Kali Ref curates a well-known subset of these tools — each with a plain-language explanation of its purpose and a basic invocation pattern using placeholders (e.g. hydra -l <user> -P <wordlist> <service>://<target>). It is intentionally a quick-reference companion, not an exhaustive manual or a replacement for official documentation.

📐 Desktop Sidebar Design:
• Persistent Sidebar: Appears as a persistent, always-available sidebar in Firefox.
• Live Search: Type to instantly filter tools by name, category, or keyword.
• Dual Views: Toggle between an A–Z list and a By Category view, each grouped and color-coded.
• Clickable Category Tags: Click any tool's category tag to instantly filter the whole list to that category — no need to switch views first.
• Expandable Cards: Click a tool to reveal its description and command syntax pattern.
• Hover Info: Hover the title for a quick reminder of what this extension is (and isn't).

⚙ How It Works — 100% Client-Side:
The extension runs entirely locally in your browser. No servers, no accounts, and no data collection of any kind. All tool data, search filtering, and category logic are handled in memory from the extension package. Nothing is ever sent over the network.

📊 What You See:
• Instant Filtering: Results update as you type, with matching text highlighted.
• Color-Coded Categories: Each of the 13 tool categories has its own distinct, clearly visible accent color.
• Command Syntax: A monospaced, easy-to-scan invocation pattern for each tool.
• Results Counter: Always know how many tools match your current search or filter.
• High Contrast: Bold text and strong contrast for easy reading at a glance.

🖥 Features:
• Curated Tool Reference: Plain-language explanations for a well-known set of Kali Linux tools.
• Basic Command Syntax: A general invocation pattern per tool — not a full flag/options manual.
• A–Z / By Category Toggle: Browse however suits the moment.
• Clickable Category Filtering: Jump from any tool straight to its full category.
• Live Search: Filter by tool name, category, or description keyword in real time.
• 100% Client-Side: No telemetry, no tracking, explicitly declared in manifest.json.

🎯 Perfect for:
• Penetration testers and red teamers who want a fast memory-jog, not a manual.
• Security students and CTF players learning what each Kali tool does.
• System administrators and DevOps engineers occasionally working with security tooling.
• Anyone who wants a searchable, visual overview of the Kali toolset without leaving the browser.

🔒 Security-First Architecture:
• No Data Collection: Explicitly declared in manifest.json.
• No Telemetry: Zero network requests or external connections.
• No Risky Code: Safe DOM methods only, no eval() or unsanitized innerHTML.
• No Permissions Required: The extension requests nothing beyond the sidebar panel itself.
• Flat & Auditable Structure: Simple, transparent codebase — five files total.

🛠 Technical Details:
Compatibility: Firefox 109.0+ Desktop only.
• Runtime Execution RAM Footprint: ~30 KB (core scripts: manifest.json + sidebar.html + sidebar.css + sidebar.js + data.js).
• Total Extension Download/Install Size: ~69 KB (including README.md).
• Entry point: sidebar_action panel (sidebar.html).
• Network requests: None.
• Storage: None required (all state managed in memory).
• Permissions: None.
• Data Collection: None (explicitly declared).

"A searchable, color-coded reference for the Kali Linux toolset — know what a tool does and how it's generally invoked, at a glance."

⚠ Limitations:
• Reference Tool Only: Does not run, install, or interact with Kali Linux tools in any way.
• Not Exhaustive: Covers a curated subset of well-known tools, not the full Kali tool catalog.
• Syntax Patterns, Not Full Manuals: Command patterns use placeholders and omit exhaustive flag lists — refer to official tool documentation for complete usage.
• Desktop Only: Firefox sidebars are not supported on Android.

⚠ Legal Disclaimer:
Kali Ref is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, funded by, or endorsed by Kali Linux, Offensive Security, or any associated project or trademark holder.
