About this extension
Your Node.js debugger. Your browser. No Chrome required. 🦊

FoxNode Inspector brings Node.js debugging directly to Firefox.

If you use Firefox as your daily browser but have ever had to open Chrome just to debug a Node.js process, FoxNode Inspector is for you.

Connect to a Node.js Inspector endpoint and start debugging directly from Firefox — locally, through Docker, over an SSH tunnel, or on a remote server.

Stop switching browsers just to debug Node.js.

FoxNode Inspector speaks directly to the Node.js Inspector Protocol and provides a Firefox-native debugging experience without requiring Chromium or Chrome DevTools.

Connect to:

127.0.0.1:9229

and start inspecting your Node.js process.

Working on a remote machine?

Create an SSH tunnel:

ssh -L 9229:127.0.0.1:9229 user@server

Then connect FoxNode Inspector to your forwarded Node.js Inspector.

Your application stays on the server. Your debugger stays in Firefox.

Evaluate JavaScript directly inside the running Node.js process:

process.version

Inspect objects, test expressions, investigate state, and interact with your application without adding temporary logging everywhere.

FoxNode Inspector provides the building blocks you expect from a debugger:
  • Pause execution
  • Resume execution
  • Inspect loaded scripts
  • View source code
  • Execute JavaScript
  • Monitor runtime events
  • Connect to Node.js Inspector targets
  • Work with local or remote Node.js processes

You shouldn't need to change browsers because your backend uses Node.js.

FoxNode Inspector is designed for developers who prefer Firefox and want a lightweight, focused way to inspect Node.js applications.

Firefox for the web. Node.js for the backend. FoxNode Inspector connects them.

FoxNode Inspector does not require a cloud account or external debugging service.

Your debugging connection stays between Firefox and the Node.js Inspector endpoint you configure.

For remote environments, use your existing SSH infrastructure.

Start Node.js with the Inspector:

node --inspect=127.0.0.1:9229 app.js

Open FoxNode Inspector, connect to the Inspector endpoint, and start debugging.

For remote Node.js applications, forward the Inspector port through SSH and connect locally.

Made for Firefox developers who refuse to open another browser just to debug Node.js. 🦊

FoxNode Inspector is an independent project and is not affiliated with Mozilla or Node.js.
