It is really wonderful how, when this extension activates, it grays out the image for a second to let you know that it worked, and it also shows the file name on the right side to ensure that you've not accidentally saved the same picture twice. If it happens that two different pictures being saved have the same name on the website, it kindly automatically adds a number to the end of the file name so there is no hassle! It didn't work for me before I updated to Firefox 57, but that really was a matter of updating Firefox. 5 stars, thank you developer!
Glad you like it :)
Haahahaahha I am so happy to find this add on. Very helpful. Thank you very much.
Works really well. Only problem I have is the notifications for downloads stay on screen for a bit longer than I'd like, can't figure out how to change the duration if it's possible. Also, it seems to tell me that an 'image' has been downloaded whenever I finish any download, even if it's not an image. But I can still rate 5 stars, these are pretty minor issues compared to how much trouble this add-on saves me.
Sorry, how long the notifications stay on screen isn't for my addon to decide. The issue with other downloads is an old one that should be fixed since long ago. Are you sure your firefox and addon are up to date? Please use my listed email address to reply.
Does a great job, I am using the hover over image for one click saving of images, would be great to be able to choose the default download folder for the images.
Glad you like it. Choosing a custom downloads folder will not be done: it's a bad idea and not even possible in/allowed by any browser anyway. All downloads in a browser will always go to the browser's download folder (or a subfolder within it).
Amazing. This saves me so much time!
Extremely handy. A little bug is that when an small image is opened by itself (for example, by right click and select "View image" on an image), the hover button is on the top of the window, and is impossible to click.
Отлично работает !
I like the double click feature to save images.
However, for the FireFox 57.0.1 version does not allow selecting of save location, it saves it to 'Download' folder.
Keep up the good work.
does not work if the URL contains a symbol (: # etc.)
Good - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DOgPppMU8AATQmT.jpg
Bad - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DOgPppMU8AATQmT.jpg:orig
Glad you like it. Sorry it doesn't work well on twitter, but that's part to blame on twitter with their weird :orig URLs. If they just followed normal conventions, everything would work fine. That goes for all addons like this that need to analyze webpage content: the more the website deviates from standards and "does their own weird little thing", the more they'll break integration.
Does exactly what it says. Very useful.
The addon was cool when it worked. It had cons though: popup about finishing downloads appeared even when I was downloading non-pictures (for example, RAR files). Now it doesn't work at all, I have to use other addons. :(
Update: reinstallation helped (with restarting Firefox). The developer responds to requests really quickly.
The wrong popups were a bug I fixed long ago. "Not working at all" is not normal, sounds like there's a personal issue with your browser. I'm very much alive and keeping my addons working.
If you post in the correct place (a gitlab issue aka the "support site" on the main page here, or an email to me) instead of misusing the review feature (I swear, it's like a trend nowadays) I'll gladly try to find out the problem and fix it for you.
I will give 5 stars if it will be a button shortcut to save picture ( for example i set "Z" to save picture and when mouse is on picture i click z and picture is save already like it was in Save Images addon). And second thing which will be nice is be able to choose a folder where I can save picture.
I'm not so sure about the hotkey feature but i can give it some thought.
Addons should not and in fact cannot download files to anywhere outside the browser's download directory. This addon does have a subfolder feature but firefox currently doesn't support it yet.
Also, you and everyone else, please stop using AMO "reviews" to request features. These reviews aren't a means of communication, and developing new features or fixing bugs requires communication. I've put email and support site links on the main page for a reason, please use them.
My name is Marc. I wish a context-menue-button like "Save as".
That already exists in your browser: "Save image as..." or "Save link as..."
Please don't make AMO reviews to request features or talk about bugs. Send me an email or post an issue on gitlab. The relevant links are on the addon's main page here.
it is what it says it is.nothing to say about that.but it would be much better if you can add another hover button for "save as" function.
Add another hover button? You mean a different look for it? Post an issue on gitlab or email me for further discussion please.
Edit: since you're not doing it yourself: https://gitlab.com/Marnes/doubleclick-image-downloader/issues/37
I'm very excited for the progression of this add-on. I used Image Picker, pre-version 57, exclusively for the ability to shift+click an image to auto save to a relatively organized and dedicated folder. This addon is on a path to be the perfect replacement for me. I hope that choosing and saving a specific save folder rather than using the browser's default download location gets implemented as the subfolder system rolls out. I would also like to see support for saving Instagram photos.
Either way--great addon, works very well and my browsing experience feels more back to normal now.
Downloading to a folder outside the browser's default download dir is not possible (even if I wanted to, it cannot be done) and an anti-feature anyway for technical reasons (hence why they made it impossible).
Sorry about the subfolder and rename feature being broken at the moment, but that's due to firefox's incomplete API. It works in chrome.
If I remember correctly, nstagram is one of a few hosts that have a very strange internal layout on their webpages that makes it impossible or very difficult for an addon to download their images. Twitter and a few others are also guilty of it. I can give them another close look to see if I can fix it but there are no promises.
Good add-on, need the option "to save as"
Isn't the "Save image as..." menu command in your browser good enough? My addons are not meant to include everything and the kitchen sink, only to fill gaps in what browsers offer.
such a great addon, i like the manual double click right now, is it possible to extend the features in the future? i'm looking for something like:
- forbid duplicates
- download the largest version of the image if it's referenced/linked
- download in the same pattern for a selected area of the page
this would truly shave time off when it becomes scalable like that
Thanks for the rating, glad you like it.
Your feature requests are kinda asking for a lot though. Detecting duplicates is way out of scope for a simple addon, trying to find linked bigger versions of an image is a logistical nightmare while a user can do it himself easily, and downloading all in an area is a very tricky thing to do. Determining the "pattern" will often not have the result users want either and will be heavily affected by every individual website's structure.
I get the feeling one of your underlying problems can be solved another way: I use my other addon Copy Selected Links to get the full-res links of images in a thumbnail gallery, and throw them into jdownloader or similar programs to get all the full-size pics. Maybe that solves one of your problems?

Finally. A decent one-click image downloader for Firefox. It's ridiculous how long and how many searches and addon trials I had to do to finally find this, which is what I've been looking for all along. I don't even have to press Ctrl! And it downloads some images that otherwise try to disable the "Save Image as" menu, which is great.
Ya, The add-on itself is awesome, i was able to do so much with the older version.
Then it got updated...and everything just fucked up. I can't even choose my destination folder of where i want to put my images....like...wow, What Happened?
*In Response to the Developer Marnes*
I'm sorry if you think i was blaming you somehow, it was not my intention to make it seem like that, just wanted a simple answer.
Anyway, i found a solution to my problem anyway. All i had to do was uninstall this version, and roll back the previous version, Now everything works fine. But thanks for everything you've done.
(FYI: no need for the insults, I most definitly don't live under a rock)
Mozilla has nerfed the addon api and addons are not able to do as much anymore as in the past.
As for the custom download folder, that's an anti-feature. The browser has a downloads folder so all browser downloads will and should go to that folder. My addon can download images to a subfolder of it, but that feature is not available in firefox yet because the api is not complete yet. It will be possible to use subfolders again at some point in the future, but the browser downloads folder will always be the starting point - it's a matter of technical complexity, reliability, cross-platform operation, and sane design.
What happened? Firefox became a completely different browser under the hood, that's what happened. And a lot of power was taken from addons, a compromise that had to be made to ensure quality in future addons. Don't like it? Switch to chrome, that's what I did.
Edit: yeah, you can roll back to a previous version and switch off auto updates on a per-addon basis. I wouldn't wait too long to update though because starting with firefox 57 the older versions will simply not work anymore.
So, I gave permission to activate Double-click Image Downloader, but it still doesnt work.
In Firefox, doubleclicking on an image fails to download it.
Additionally, in the Manage Your Add-Ons, Extensions, the Options button fails to appear. (It should be next to the Disable and Remove buttons.) So, it is impossible to tell the add-on to use the hover option.
I notice, another add-on has the same problem, Video Downloader Professional.
This is not what reviews are for. Make an issue on gitlab ("support site") instead and provide details like your OS and exact firefox version please.
it's not working after update
You're going to have to be way more specific if you expect me to do something about it. Make an issue here and explain in detail: https://gitlab.com/Marnes/doubleclick-image-downloader/issues
How do I change the default save folder?
You don't. Downloads will and should go into the user's downloads folder. Please don't make reviews just to ask a question, that's what an issue tracker is for ("support site").
This addon does exactly what I want to save the images on the website by hover the mouse over the images.
But there are some unuse features which could be removed for slim down the codes, unmainternance codes?
Don't worry about code maintenance, that's my job. The disabled features are there because they carried over from the original addon and the chrome version, and I expect them to be possible in the new firefox soon.
