Chatwait Privacy
Chatwait shows sponsored text cards while ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini is generating a response. The extension is designed to avoid reading, storing, or transmitting chat content.
What the extension collects
For qualified ad impressions and clicks, Chatwait sends:
- Anonymous device ID generated by the extension
- Site hostname, such as chatgpt.com
- Sponsored card ID
- Event type, such as impression or click
- Impression dwell time in milliseconds
- Event timestamp
Our backend also records the IP address of each event request (from standard server request headers, not sent by the extension itself), used only for fraud checks.
If you choose to link an account, Chatwait sends your email address and device ID to create a magic-link sign-in.
What the extension does not collect
Chatwait does not collect:
- Prompt text
- AI responses
- Chat history
- Page screenshots
- Browser history outside the supported AI sites
- Passwords, cookies, or authentication tokens
Where data is sent
Events and account-link requests are sent to Chatwait's backend:
https://api.chatwait.com/
Why data is collected
Event data is used to:
- Count valid ad impressions and clicks
- Prevent duplicate and fraudulent impressions
- Attribute pending earnings to an anonymous device ID
- Link a device to an email address when requested
Controls
You can pause sponsored cards from the extension popup. Pausing stores a local setting in Chrome storage and stops new cards from being shown.
Data retention
Qualified impression and click events are retained for fraud review, advertiser reporting, and payout accounting. Pending earnings are held for the fraud review period before becoming withdrawable.
