About this extension
Every free CanDoYa tool, one keystroke away, in a Firefox sidebar that opens over whatever page you are already on.
Press Command+Shift+L (Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows and Linux), type what you need, press Enter. The tool opens beside your tab instead of replacing it, so you keep your place.
WHY A SIDEBAR
Because the alternative is a new tab, a hunt through bookmarks, and losing the thing you were reading. The panel sits next to your work. Compress an image, count the words in a draft, format a blob of JSON, check a color contrast ratio, then close it and carry on.
THREE WAYS TO OPEN IT
Keyboard. Command+Shift+L on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows and Linux. Rebind it at about:addons, under the gear menu, in "Manage Extension Shortcuts".
Toolbar. Click the CanDoYa icon.
Address bar. Type cd, press Space, then start typing a tool name to jump straight to it.
SEARCH THAT FINDS THE RIGHT THING
Results rank as you type and match on tool names, file formats and the task you are describing, so "shrink jpeg" and "compress image" both land in the same place. Arrow keys move through the results and Enter opens the highlighted one, without your hands leaving the keyboard. Category filters sit under the search field and never take focus away from it.
The panel ships with a bundled index, so search works from the first moment you install it, before it has fetched anything.
FAVORITES AND RECENTS, IN SYNC BOTH WAYS
Star a tool on candoya.com and it is waiting for you in the panel. Star one in the panel and the site knows about it. Recently opened tools stay in step the same way, so the tools you actually use rise to the top wherever you are.
Anything you had favorited before installing the extension is merged in on the first sync rather than overwritten.
EVERYTHING RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER
CanDoYa tools are client-side. A PDF you split, an image you compress, a file you convert: all of it is processed on your own machine, and the file never leaves your device. There is no account, no sign-up, no paywall and no ads.
The panel itself sends nothing about you. Its only network request is refreshing the list of available tools from candoya.com, revalidated with an ETag every few hours.
THE PERMISSIONS, AND WHY EACH ONE IS THERE
storage, to keep your favorites and recent tools on your own machine.
Access to candoya.com, so the sidebar can refresh the tool list and read and write your favorites on the site.
That is the entire list. There is no tabs permission and no access to all sites, so the extension cannot read any other page you visit.
Firefox asks you before granting the candoya.com access, and you can withdraw it at any time from about:addons. Search still works without it, from the tool list bundled into the sidebar; what you lose is the two-way favorites sync and picking up newly published tools.
WHAT IS IN THE TOOLBOX
The tools are grouped into these categories, and new ones are added all the time.
Text & Writing. Count words, format, clean up and transform text.
Images. Compress, convert, resize and crop - no upload.
PDF. Merge, split, convert and compress PDF files.
Developer. Format, encode, validate and generate code.
Converters. Convert units, files, time zones and currencies.
Color & Design. Pick colors, convert formats, check contrast.
Calculators. Math, finance, dates, health and percentages.
Games & Fun. Word games, puzzles and card generators to play.
Social & Creator. Profile, caption and sharing helpers for creators.
SEO & Web. Meta tags, slugs, sitemaps and validators.
The full, current list lives at candoya.com, and the panel's search covers all of it.
