Ghostery – Privacy Ad Blocker by Ghostery

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18696087, 6 days agoGhostery worked flawlessly for eight years, prohibitinig all ads from even appearing on my AOL email account.
Then last week, constantly-changing ads began showinig up above my emails.
I contacted Ghostery and sent several requested screenshots of my email page and the ads themselves and waited for a reply, ideally a fix to block all those ads. Since then, I've been ignored.
Ghostery, I believe a response is in order. - Rated 1 out of 5by Ahnaf Ahmed Rohon, a month ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Klaas de Eindbaas, a month agoToo bad it also hides all cookies-option screen, making it impossible to choose 'opt-out' or 'only necessary'. I don't know if Ghostery does this bc it maybe disables all non-necessary cookies itself, but I don't know Ghostery well enough to know that, I'm not participant in coding Ghostery. So regardless whether its relevant, I'd like to get the choice to click 'Decline All' or eg the Dutch 'Weigeren'. Even if it only was bc the cookies option screen now continuesly pops up and disappears with every new page you click to within a site. It's annoying to say the least. If I'd be given the chance to just click the decline button then that screen is gone 'forever' while I'm on a site, not peek-a-booing on every page I visit wihin that site. And it's worrying to say the most, bc if the decline isn't clicked - then what unwanted cookies are seeping through????

Thanks for your message!
Ghostery’s feature Never-Consent is doing exactly what you are asking for. It automates the interaction with consent dialogues, expressing dissent to tracking. If you would like to click on those consent dialogues yourself, you can toggle off Never-Consent in Ghostery Settings. For any questions, please drop us a message at support@ghostery.com and we're happy to guide further.

Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by ···, 2 months agoThe new UI is a disaster. Before, I knew exactly what I wanted to block and what not. Now I'm being patronized. That's why I'm still using version 8.12.13 with the automatic updates turned off.

Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 12845766, 3 months agoFor about two weeks embedded 'Youtube' videos will not play on any websites. Filed a detailed report on Ghostery Support Page and have not had any response (That was a huge waste of time!). Worked great for years. Give it another day or two before I completely remove it. UPDATE: Support couldn't replicate. Asked for screenshot and other routine nonsense (I thought they were going to ask me to unplug Youtube and plug it back in! ) Never asked if I was signed into Youtube. That was the problem. CAN'T BE SIGNED INTO YOUTUBE. The only way around it is to turn-off AD TRACKING "globally" (every website) The specific Youtube site "exceptions" don't work as they should. I wonder how many people have this problem and just simply give up without contacting support and remove GHOSTERY. Might be many. One percent would be 10,000. Nah..I'm sure it's just me.

We only had one support request regarding embedded Youtube videos, which we replied to asking for examples of websites where this happens. We can only find solutions if we can reproduce the situation.
Thanks for your cooperation!

I'm also not buying hiding pause button deep into the settings was requested by users "forgetting to unpause" At least make it configurable?... Especially since there were already options easily accessible for "pause for X minutes" which could've been defaulted, instead of hiding the pause option.
all in all one of my favourite extensions gone completely now. good job.Developer response
posted 2 months agoHi there, we hope your problems have been fixed by the support team.
Also, we have updated the UI allowing to pause a site from the panel - now there are two options to do this.

Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by snkiz, 3 months agoThe new v10 is broken, it isn't blocking anything. The new UI doesn't add anything but more clicks. Pause is now buried in a full page settings page that is full of white space and completely unnecessary. The time choice for pause has been removed. Trash update.

posted 3 months agoHi there,
Thanks for reaching out to Ghostery!
Sorry for your experience! We also replied via email.
Based on user feedback, usability tests and the redesign, we have moved the global pause button to Settings (accessible from Ghostery panel --> Burger Menu --> Privacy Protection) and have “Trust this site” available and accessible with one click which is scoped to pausing Ghostery on the present site only and for a selected time.
Many of our users were pausing Ghostery and forgetting to turn back on, so they were unknowingly and unwillingly browsing the web unprotected. We tried to fix that for the user group.
Regarding "The new v10 is broken, it isn't blocking anything." Can you please send us a screenshot of the Ghostery panel with a loaded website to support@ghostery.com? We would love to help fix this for you.

A bit of background for moving the global “Pause Ghostery” button to settings: Many of our users were pausing Ghostery for a specific local and time bound reason and forgetting to turn it on, so they were unknowingly browsing the web unprotected.
We hope this makes sense. For any questions, further feedback, comments, please message us anytime at support@ghostery.com.

posted 8 months agoHi there,
We understand your frustration! Sorry for that! The Ghostery tracker library updates automatically every 24h but the date does not change in the UI, except you update it manually. The support team communicated this in our email conversations.
We are funneling all our efforts towards an extensively reworked version of Ghostery, adapting to upcoming changes imposed upon browser extensions developers by major industry players.
For more insights into these advancements, we encourage you to explore the following resource: https://www.ghostery.com/blog/category/manifest-v3.
While this is no excuse, we also have a substantial user interface update in the pipeline where the issue you mention will be addressed.
Please have a bit more patience! We're happy to be of service and help protect your privacy online!
Ghostery Team- Rated 1 out of 5by Rochelle Shepherd, 8 months agoIt does not work at all. I keep experiencing pop up advertising, and game apps from Google Play Store every minute. Even on Netflix it is constant and extremely frustrating. I installed Firefox as well with Ghostery and it has not worked.

What we know at the moment is that sometimes Youtube shows the message "You're offline. Check your connection." Simply reloading the page helps fix this based on our research.

The article you mention is from 2013 and refers to a time where Ghostery was owned by Evidon. In 2017, Evidon sold Ghostery to Cliqz GmbH, a German company which amongst other things developed the privacy search engine now owned by Brave. Ghostery GmbH is an independent brand and company located in Munich, Germany.
