About this extension
WebDefend is a security extension for Firefox, on desktop and on Android. It tells you before you click whether a link is safe, suspicious or dangerous, and it stops whatever could harm you.
What WebDefend does:
Every link on a page gets a green, orange or red mark, based on public blocklists updated every hour and a local analysis of the address (fake brand names, mixed alphabets, misleading addresses). Links to tracking sites are flagged in orange.
Phishing, scam and malware pages are blocked before they load, with a clear page explaining why.
Suspicious pages are held back with an orange warning, and you can continue in one click if you wish.
Every download is checked (on desktop). The file is stopped if it comes from a blocklisted site, and its entire content is analyzed to spot known traps.
Traps detected in files:
a program disguised as a document or an image
a ZIP archive hiding a program or a script
an Office macro that runs on its own
a PDF that launches a program
a shortcut that runs PowerShell
a script that downloads something and then runs it
A dangerous file is stopped and deleted, and a red or orange warning page explains why.
The toolbar icon's panel shows the page status, the links found, and the last file checked along with how long the check took.
A test mode in the settings lets you simulate a suspicious or dangerous download and see the protection in action, with no risk at all.
Privacy
No address you visit and no file ever leaves your computer.
Everything is analyzed locally, with no account and no data collection.
Interface
Dark or light theme, available in 30 languages.
Settings organized in tabs; every protection can be turned off in one click.
Updates:
⚠ If a major problem occurs, a fix is released within 3 days at most. ⚠
