About this extension
ShadowLog gives you fine-grained, automated control over which browsing traces to erase — like private browsing, but only for the sites you choose.
How it works:
Create rules with regex URL patterns. When you visit a matching URL, ShadowLog can automatically delete the history entry, cookies, cache, and/or site data based on your configuration.
Key features:
- Regex-based URL matching with optional exclude patterns for precise targeting
- Per-rule actions: choose independently whether to delete history, cookies, cache, or site data
- Multiple timing modes: delete immediately on visit, on tab close, on browser close, or on a periodic schedule
- Built-in retry buffer: failed deletions are persisted and retried automatically on next startup
- Safety controls: configurable rate limits and per-origin cooldowns to prevent excessive API calls
- URL test tool: paste a URL in the options page to preview which rules match and what actions would be taken
- Import/export rules as JSON for backup or sharing
- Popup for quick access: pause/resume, forget current tab with one click, view recent deletion activity
Privacy:
ShadowLog does not collect, transmit, or share any user data. All rules and settings are stored locally using the browser's extension storage API.
Permissions explained:
- history — delete matching history entries
- browsingData — clear cookies, cache, and site data by hostname
- webNavigation — detect page visits for immediate deletion
- tabs — detect tab close events
- storage — persist rules, retry buffer, and settings locally
- alarms — schedule periodic cleanup sweeps
