Version 6.2.0a5 734.9 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

Version 6.2.0a5 includes a number of improvements and fixes:
  • Fixed no retries on download errors of video chunks (HLS, DASH and F4F) when due to network errors (like internet access temporarily broken)
  • Added configurable delay on download retries to cope with particularly poor networking conditions
  • Fixed H264 not being properly decoded on some HLS videos. This was causing the generated file to only play audio
  • Fixed the case of scrolling down a page containing many videos (like a tumblr site dedicated to videos) while some of the videos are being downloaded. After passing the limit of videos from a same source (default is 15), downloads could not be seen and managed properly
  • Prevented text selection in main panel. In some conditions, it was difficult to unselect
  • Fixed layout issue in download progress bars
  • Fixed HTML warnings in settings page
Of course, this version contains improvements from previous beta releases:
  • 6.2.0a4: fixed audio when playing HLS videos on Windows Media Player
  • 6.2.0a2: support for encrypted HLS streams
  • 6.2.0a1: support for YouTube DASH streaming (causing some video not to be detected)
Please report issues with this version to this specific topic.

Version 6.2.0a4 734.3 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

Previous version, 6.2.0a3, was supposed to fix an issue related to audio from HLS captures not playing on Windows Media Player. It did in some cases but broke whole HLS videos in many situations.

This 6.2.0a4 version should definitely solve those problems.

Version 6.2.0a3 733.7 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

Version 6.2.0a3 should fix an issue related to audio from HLS captures not playing on Windows Media Player.

Please report success or failure in the support forum.

Version 6.2.0a2 733.6 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

Version 6.2.0a2 includes support for downloading encrypted HLS videos

Version 6.2.0a1 771.7 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

A number of YouTube videos are streamed using not only ADP (video and audio on different streams), but each stream being only available using the DASH protocol: not a single URL to an audio or video file, but instead a number of chunks that need to be downloaded and reworked to produce a single file. As a result, those videos were not even displayed in the Video DownloadHelper interface. Version 6.2.0a1 solves this case.
Russian locale (87% complete) has been added.

Version 6.1.1a4 718.0 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

This version fixes a bug where when on a Mac or Linux, ffmpeg is used instead of libav, the add-on mis-detects the converter to not supporting the VP9. As a result, some YouTube are not detected while they are available.

Version 5.5.0 658.0 KiB Funktioniert mit Firefox 36.0 und neuer

On March 24th, YouTube made some changes causing Video DownloadHelper not to recognize some videos when logged in. We provided a fix for that within 24 hours under the form of a beta version of the add-on. This 5.5.0 release brings those changes to everyone.

Videos streamed over the chunked protocols HLS (MPEG-TS/MP2T, on sites like Dailymotion and many live streaming sites) and DASH (M4F used on sites like Vimeo) can now be downloaded without the need for the converter. Previous 5.4.x versions had a basic support for those streams, but it was inconvenient (you had to keep the video running) and the converter had to be used to finalize the download to a proper video file. This new version even offer in most cases the choice between several quality variants.

The old list of supported sites (which were not maintained anymore) is back to life. All the listed 1000+ video web sites are alive and are DownloadHelper-compatible. New sites are added weekly. Those lists are hosted on the downloadhelper.net website and no longer managed by the addon.

A long-time request from users with a low quality network connection: automatic download retries. If the download fails in a recoverable way, the add-on tries to resume the download from where it stops. The number of retries before giving up is configurable.

Add-on settings are now managed from with a tab and no longer an add-on panel.

The DownloadHelper icon is now usable from the Firefox options panel.

An option has been added to switch to the tab owning a particular video entry in the panel.

Video entries with long titles can now have the ellipsis (…) at right, left or display over several lines, based on the settings).

Fixes from previous 5.4.2 version:

  • Fixed filename overwriting on simultaneous captures
  • Fixed YouTube ADP variants that could generate aggregation errors
  • Fixed gallery downloads with spaces in file names
  • Fixed canceling download from Firefox manager cancels entry download in add-on

Video DownloadHelper 5.3.0 introduces a new capture method we call Screen Capture, or SCRAP in some UI places, which consists of taking snapshots of a browser window region at high-frequency, and encode them on the fly, using the converter, to create a video file.

This capture method is used in two new features:

  • Browsing session capture: an easy way to make web sites demo videos. The add-on captures the visible part of a browser window and optionally, is able to highlight the mouse.
  • Applet capture: the add-on analyzes the loaded page to detect Flash and video regions big enough to be considered as capturable content and creates new entries in the detected hits list. Passing the mouse over those entries highlights the related region in the page so you know what you are about to capture.

Other minor fixes and additions:

  • optionally use browser's default download directory instead of VDH specific one
  • optionally display VDH controls from the Tools menu
  • optionally allows prefixing gallery captured files with incremental number
  • MP2T capture can now be configured from the settings
  • conversion output profiles can now be configured from the settings
  • if converter is not installed, place ADP variants detected from the network at the bottom of the list
