About this extension
Check whether a product appears vegan while you browse. Select an ingredients list, right-click a product image, paste label text, or enter a barcode. Vegsnap shows its findings and explains what is uncertain.
• Check food, cosmetics, household products, clothing and shoes.
• See which ingredients or materials appear plant-derived, animal-derived, ambiguous or unknown.
• Look up exact barcodes in Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts. A partial offline database is included; you can import additional regional packs.
• Review the evidence and source dates. Incomplete labels and conflicting information can leave a result uncertain.
• Save and search checks on your device. Turn off history or delete saved checks at any time.
• Optionally enable shop buttons for Amazon, dm.de, REWE and Zalando. Automatic browsing checks use product databases, never AI.
• Use English or German.
Optional AI
Connect an OpenAI-compatible API or a compatible local model for labels and ingredients that local rules and databases cannot resolve. ChatGPT sign-in requires the separately installed Vegsnap desktop companion. Basic ingredient and database checks work without an AI account or the companion. Providers have their own retention policies, usage limits and charges.
Privacy
No Vegsnap account, ads, analytics or telemetry. Your history stays in this browser. Online barcode lookups send product identifiers to Open Facts. AI checks you start can send the selected text, photos and product details, including a source URL, to your chosen provider. Website, endpoint and companion access are requested for the features that use them. Firefox also requests optional data-sharing consent; declining it leaves local checks available.
Vegsnap is an early release. Results explain available evidence and missing details; community database labels and AI assessments are not independently verified certifications. Company concerns are shown separately and do not change the product’s vegan result.
Free and open source under AGPL-3.0-only.
