About this extension
Automatically open the local version of a website when your development server is running.
Enter your website URL and localhost port once. When you visit a matching URL, Redirect to Local checks your local server. If it responds, the extension redirects you to localhost while preserving the full path and query string. If your server is unavailable, you stay on the original website.
With website https://example.com and port 3000:
https://example.com/test?a=b
Deep links, nested paths, and query parameters carry over automatically.
Automatic availability checks: Checks localhost before each matching page navigation.
Fallback to the original website: If localhost is unreachable or doesn’t respond within 1.5 seconds, navigation continues normally.
Preserves paths and query strings: Open the corresponding local page without manually editing the address.
Saved settings: Your website URL and localhost port are stored locally in Firefox.
Pause and resume: Temporarily stop redirects without losing your configuration. Your pause preference persists across browser restarts.
Exact host matching: Only the configured hostname and port match. Subdomains are treated separately.
Open Redirect to Local from Firefox’s extensions menu.
Enter your development server’s port, such as 3000.
Enter the website URL, such as https://example.com.
Click Save settings.
Start your local server and visit the website.
Use Pause redirects whenever you want to browse the remote website while your local server is running.
The extension sends a lightweight HEAD request to http://localhost:PORT/. Any HTTP response confirms that the server is reachable—even if the root path returns an error such as 404.
Matching works across HTTP and HTTPS source URLs. The local destination always uses HTTP. If you enter a website URL containing a path, the extension saves its origin and matches all paths on that host.
Redirects apply to ordinary top-level GET navigations. Form POST submissions, embedded frames, and background requests are not redirected. Existing tabs are not automatically moved between the remote and local website.
Redirect to Local has no analytics or external service. Your website URL, localhost port, and pause preference are stored locally in Firefox.
Website access is required to detect matching navigations and check localhost availability.
