About this extension
Mosquito9 is a free browser add-on from Mampi Technologies Ltd. It blocks known third-party trackers, removes known tracking tags from the address when a page opens, and shows a green, amber or red warning light.
Your browsing stays on your device. There are no accounts and no analytics. Page addresses are checked on your device, never sent anywhere and never kept as a browsing history. The only downloads are two public threat lists, about once a day. They come from GitHub, which can see your IP address, as with any download. They never include the site you are visiting.
The warning light
- Red: the site is on a known threat list, or the address looks like an imitation of a well-known site. A full-page warning appears. You can leave, or continue for this browsing session.
- Amber: the page is not secure (http), or it has a password box on an http page.
- Green: secure (https), not on a threat list and not a look-alike: "No known threats found on this page."
Mosquito9 warns about known threats and suspicious signs. It cannot catch everything.
On Firefox: Mosquito9 blocks the same trackers as on other browsers and cleans the same links. Firefox does not let add-ons count or name blocked trackers, so the panel says blocking is on instead of showing a number. Optional "Mampi browser colours" turns your Firefox toolbar black and green.
Allow this site turns tracker blocking off for one site only. Link cleaning and red warnings still work.
What Mosquito9 does not do
- It is not antivirus software and not a VPN.
- It does not catch every threat or block every tracker. The tracker list is EasyPrivacy; the browser has room for 30,000 rules, so the most common ones are kept.
- It does not send your browsing off your device.
